Geddy Lee's technique

Discussion in 'Technique [BG]' started by B8ssMan89, May 13, 2005.

  1. Can someone tell Geddy Lee's technique is?
I'm watching Rush in Rio and it looks like he uses just 1 finger 80% of the time.

What Ged does is drags 1 finger over two strings and alternates between 1st and 2nd fingers. Do a search for it, i'm positive there's been posts
  3. I never knew Geddy talked in the 3rd person :D
  4. Yeah, check out the ..Rio DVD - in the interview he talks a bit about his technique. Its basically like a flamenco player would strum a guitar, except he's doing it with a bass.

Another thing to remember is that one of his fingers wasn't working well, and he says that he had to modify his technique some because of it. Watch the interview. I can't remember exactly (I have the DVD), but I think it's his middle finger. I remember seeing an old laser disk of "Exit Stage Left" (can't even find it on VHS any more!) and his technique was definitely different. I guess 20+ years experience will change things as well. :bassist:

At least his melodies are great. No need for right techniques for that.

Hi fellas, I'm just a newbie here, and this is my first post.
