I love the sound of the overdrive/distortion on the bass on the live album "Different Stages." What is he using to achieve that?

  2. He used a Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI, into the console. Really basic.

I thought he used a PSA-1 direct to the board before processing, but I could be wrong.

There may have been a tube preamp used in the signal too.

wasn't he still using his trace elliot stuff?
  5. Nope, the TE stuff is just for stage monitoring; he might take a line off the head, but he's been going direct only for quite some time. If you look at the picture on the disc 1 sleeve, you can see that the cabs he's using are unmiked. If you look carefully at the sleeve for disc 2, you can see that the 8x10 isn't miked, either--at first glance it looks like it is, but that's just the vocal mike for those occasions when Geddy decides to put down the bass
