I think artists who fake sing live are nothing more than con artists. They charge a fee and people are paying money with the intention to hear this artist sing live but they get some one who is pretending to sing(just mouthing the words).

Deceptive practice unless the artist disclose that they are not actually singing.

I hate to say it, I really do, but for once, I agree with Simmons about the tape thing.

GS making comments about someone else 'selling out'...laughable.

Who cares. The best one was with Prince in the rain...that was IT

  6. I'm really surprised that anyone pays attention to the SuperBowl half-time performers . . . past performers have included:

    New Kids on the Block
    N' Sync
    Britney Spears
    & Disney characters

Why the recent backlash of "this person isn't right for the SuperBowl" etc . . . seems a bit ridiculous, the SuperBowl half-time show has been a joke for a VERY long time.

"Selling out"? Kiss has never said anything BUT "It's all about the money". They're more honest about their commercialism than anyone else, IMO.

I disagree. I'm no fan of it, but Madonna-type shows (Brittany, et. Al.) are about the choreography and the stage effects. It's quite simply not about music. Music is the back drop for those shows. I think of it as Disney on Ice.

I don't expect anyone to be able to sustain a note while doing highly aerobic dance moves. It's impossible. Your internal organs bump into you your lungs and your airflow is uneven. But the musical performance isn't what the show is about.

And all the while their marketing the choreography, their marketing the fact that they are a singer and the constant reminder that they have singing skills. There is not one of those artist that does all the dancing, running around on stage, singing, etc that has not put a focus on the mentioning that they sing and that's how they push who they are on potential marks.

They market themselves as being a full talent entity.

It really is a con game.

You could put actors on the instruments miming to the sequenced tracks and make no secret of it, tell the crowd that the artist had lost their voice but still would do the show to tracks, giving the audience the option to refund their tickets. No one would go for the refund because it's about the spectacle, not the musical performance. We are talking about dance music. For that audience, it just doesn't matter.

Not impossible, just really difficult. There are a few Korean pop singers/groups that, for the most part, do not use lip sync. If someone is sick or if the dance moves are too aerobic, they might use lip sync for that particular part of the song, but it's rare. There's one particular pop singer called "BoA" who supposedly never uses lip sync, but because of the choreography her voice does give a little near the end (which is good evidence that she's not lip syncing, from my standpoint).

It's great to be in America in a time when dollar-chasing corporate entertainers on the fading side of their careers can throw out a line to a TMZ ho as they leave a restaurant, and it rockets around the interweb as serious news (the Trump factor)..
While she couldn't be further from the stuff i listen to regularly, at least Madonna's a technically decent singer, in the way that Mr. $immons is a technically decent bass player. She also seems quite capable of mounting the sort of mainstream Baudrillardian spectacle, complete with live vocals, that the halftime show is really about...

Inappropriate? They're actually the same person, in that the Dollar always comes first with both of them, THEN the delivery of a good professional mainstream product, like any established cartel.... maybe Gene'$ eye-tucks are causing his ears to detune themselves- she's probably one of the most consistent brands with the biggest production machinery of that genre out there, and as a "pro", she surely knows what's at stake... unless Mr. $immon's wealth has bought him some very advanced intel that the rest of America isn't privy to.

If I was King, I'd have this and all future Super Bowl 1/2 time shows performed by Paul McCartney. That guy is the coolest!
His band is friggin' awesome! I was lucky enough to score 2nd row center seats for his show at FEDEX field in Largo, MD and I still have the tan from the Flashpots! The guy went the entire show without so much as a sip of water. A real Badass he is!

When has the Superbowl halftime show ever been about the music?

It's a spectacle and looking for artistic integrity there is like looking for great acting on "Two and a Half Men".

IMO Kiss and Madonna are equally suited for a Super Bowl show, since both have a commitment to putting on an entertaining live show. The fact that one would be live music and one would be lip synced really has no bearing on the majority of viewers.

I'm not a KISS fan by any means, but I certainly agree with Gene in disliking a "taped" performance. But I'm clearly in the minority. I think people in this thread imagine that the ticket buying public is being conned by pop stars that lip sync for the entirety of their stage shows. The reality is that most of them know the shows are lip synced and don't care. Again, it really isn't about musical integrity for them - it's about going to "see" a show.
