Anyone know anything about this amp? (GENZ BENZ GBE 250C 2X10 combo) I can't find much info. I ran across a used one that I thought might be nice to keep in the studio. Is $300.00 too much? Thanks! Edit: it has a "fet gain knob, a tube gain knob, tube harmonics and saturation knobs", I wonder how that sounds/works.
Great sounding amp. 250 watts @4 ohms. you can add an 8 ohm extension cab for more volume pushing 330 watts at 2.66 ohms. Has a tube Pre amp you can blend and get a very warm classic sound from it. I have had my GBE 250c 115 for 5 years and not one problem. Best sounding amp I have ever owned. If it is in good condition buy it. You wont regret it. Built like a tank. This amp gets very loud and sounds awesome.Has a very good Direct out for studio use. Link to manual.http://www.genzbenz.com/img/manuals/gb/GBE250C&500HUserManual.pdf
Thanks for the info MoJo, that is very helpful. I'm going to try and pick it up tomorrow if it isn't already sold. Sounds like it'll be a good addition for a studio/home amp. If I get it I'll post a pic here. Thanks again.
I'll 2nd Mojo1364; I've owned and steadily used a 250c head since the mid-90's...it has never failed. I like it so much I found a used 500c when I needed a few more watts!
I know! I just happened across one and maybe paid a little more than I would have liked, but I at least knew what I was getting. Nice to hear someone else appreciate these amps!
Thanks for the replies to this! Well I got it a few days ago! This one is in mint condition, and he let me get it for 275. Mojo was right on in his post about this amp. This will work perfect as a recording amp for me, it has a nice EQ, excellent cleans and some real sweet overdriven sounds, blendable. I've tested the D.I. out, it works great. And it still sounds good at low to moderate levels for a home amp. I'm not sure how much this amp cost when new, but I can't believe I got this much amp for that much money, I love this thing!
I have a 250C 112 and so far I like it a lot. I play a show with it Friday, so I'm interested to see how it performs. I emailed Genz Benz about it and they don't really have a lot of information on this series yet... //also, I paid 175 for mine
Great deal! I have the 115 version of the GBE250c. It sounds great doing small to medium venues. The 112 should do great for small gigs. Adding an 8 ohm extension cab should get you plenty loud enough for medium size gigs. With PA support it is all you should ever need. FYI I did post the manual in this thread. Enjoy your gig. Let us know how it went.
Nice amp couch7! I believe these amps were selling for around $650- $700 in 2001 and 2002. I like the way the control knobs feel. This amp Sounds and performs like a very high end Quality built amp.
I will. I may be a Genz Benz convert if this show goes well. I really dig the tone. Its quite fantastic and definitely fills the space I need it to. I play with an acoustic group and a reasonable drummer so this amp ought to have plenty of volume for my purposes. Thanks! I'm pretty excited to gig it.
+1 Nice deal! And the let us know how it goes on the gig. There's some good info on this amp in the owners manual Mojo linked to above. Thanks for your help in this thread, your comments were spot on. I agree on the way the control knobs feel with the fine notch's. It's just a nice amp all around IMO. I'm really glad I got it, I can't stop playing it!!
So last night I played an outdoors show around 6 and a small club show around 12. I have to say that my GBE 112 was fantastic. I played straight through the combo outside and had no volume issues or farting out and was easily heard with the vocal pa and acoustic amps. I used the build in DI for the second show and it was just as good, if not better sounding through the PA's JBL 15" subs. Although i am glad i had a furniture dolly to drag it around with. All in all a good experience and I'm glad I picked this amp up, it was a great deal!
Great to hear that the amp performed well for your gigs . I put some heavy duty casters on mine. Raising it up a couple of inches and it's very easy to move around.
I had the 2x10 combo and I never did get the precise weight but it felt like it was 100 pounds. That may have been due to the dimensions. I was going to put heavy duty casters on mine as suggested in this thread but I sold it as a I drive a sedan and I found it difficult to load the amp in the vehicle without damage to the car, the amp, or myself. The person who bought it from me was going to leave it in a rehearsal space so it was perfect for him.
