My main amp head is an Ampeg PF 800 that I dearly love . I had an Ampeg SVPCL preamp with a Crown XLS1500 that was the bees knees but wanted to downsize so I got the PF 800 . Tone wise the pre-poweramp rig was awesome but the PF 800 is very close and I have been very satisfied . I needed a backup amp and the PF 500 would be a no brainer but it just hasn't worked out . A Fender Rumble 500 head came up so I bought it during the pandemic . After reading the Rumble thread and reading all the good things said about them I thought it would be a slam dunk . Last week I brought the Fender head to practice and tried to get a tone that fit in our bands mix . After three songs I gave up and went back to my PF 800 . That night , last Wednsday , I put the Rumble up for sale and it sold almost right away . No Ampegs in the classifieds but there was a Genz Shuttle 6.0 . I had a Shuttle 9.0 a few years ago and liked it so I ended up buying the Shuttle . The amp came today and I took it to practice tonight . Wow , it sounded great right from the first song . Plenty of power and cut right through the mix . I used the previous owners EQ settings and it just killed . It won't dethrone my PF 800 as my number 1 but I do love it . It does show that as bass players we all have different tone goals . I also tried a GK 1000 RB but the tone just wasn't for me even though the amp was a powerhouse and cut like a knife . I'm sure the Rumble 500 head is great too but it just didn't do it for my tone .
Great choice! I have a Shuttle 6.0 as backup for my Shuttle 6.2. These are great amps. Plenty powerful for me, especially with two cabs. Larger venues are miked anyway. Enjoy!!!!
I find I like the pre on the Shuttle just fine , no add ons for me . Before I got it I was thinking I would have to push the high boost button like I use the ultra high on my PF 800 . When I got it the low boost and mid cut buttons were engaged and not the high boost , just the opposite from what I thought would work . I tried a few different combinations and came back to how it had arrived . Lots of different EQ choices already , I like it !
I still have my Shuttle 6.0 and use it frequently. However, it is my backup to the Mesa D800+, but it still gets plenty of use.
I have two 115 cabinets with Eminence Delalite II 2515 drivers built to Eminence specs . The specs say that with a high pass filter at 65Hz they are rated for 300 watts RMS each . The Deltalites are a little mid forward sounding and they sound wonderful with the Shuttle . The Shuttle is supposed to have HPF built in from what I gather so it works great . With my Ampeg PF 800 I use a Fdeck series 3 high pass filter .
Spray the back of the inside of those cabinets black!!! The HPF on the Shuttle 6.0 is in the low mid 30's, but the slope is 4th order and the alignment is close to BW, so they work well without needing to be set so high.
Ok ! Thanks for the info on the Shuttle . The cabinets have steel grills now and look more pro . Next time I have them home I will pull the drivers and paint the back . You are right , they deserve it .
Briefly got to play with a loaner Shuttle 6.0 after my previous amp went on the fritz. I was thoroughly impressed by it. Almost snagged a used one from the classifieds, but had the opportunity to buy a Mesa WD-800 and stuck with that. I wouldn't hesitate to plug into a Shuttle 6.0 again. It was a yummy experience.. but so is the WD-800.
The Genz is really killer , it works great with these speakers . Most likely it sounds great with about any speakers .
I still love mine. Several years after buying it used, never let me down, the BLUE LED keeps shining (see avatar photo ). I play mine through 2 epifani 112s. Never met a situation it cldnt handle (tho , ill admit we ALWAYS have PA support). T$
I have two GK 1X12 Neo cabs. One for smaller gigs. Two for larger ones. The Shuttle 6.2 is light, as are the cabs. Sounds great. I used my 6.0 for a few years and was very happy. When Genz Benz was shut down by Fender, I snagged a new 6.2 at a good price. Both are terrific amps.
