I love it! So funky. Almost minimalistic playing, but supports the song so well. I've been trying to learn the lines, they're great. Any idea what he uses to achieve the tone on this album?

I would imagine either his old P-bass or the P bass Lakland made for him. I love that album too!

His tone comes from his P bass and his technique.. His style is all about many many years of groovin hard with great rhythm sections.

I'm pretty sure he could make anything sound good. Such an immense talent, and that experience certainly hasn't hurt him either.

Does anyone know what amp he uses on that album?

  6. I like anything Warren does, but this record with GPJr is pretty killer

As said he probably used either his lakland or old fender P. He uses D'addario nickel XL's 50-105. I know the album was recorded in Willy Nelson's studio so who knows exactly what the signal path was. Great album.

Just listened to some of it again this morning, I especially like "Man In Motion". I first heard George from the "Deepest End" CD/DVD, so I was very glad he teamed up with Warren on this! Warren Haynes has to be about one of the hardest working guys in the business now, between this solo project, the Mule, Allman Bros., & the Dead, is there anything he can't do???

I caught George Porter Jr and Runnin' Partners this past weekend in Jackson, MS and he was just killing it with his Lakland P going through an Aguilar Tonehammer and two Aguilar 1x12 cabs. Tone for freakin' days. That being said, I have no idea what amp he used on that record but I would be shocked to hear that he wasn't playing one of his Ps. Got to meet him after the show and he was very gracious and nice.

Get up! Get Get Get Down!
I read the only time he changes strings is when one break.

GPJR has been one of my favorite players since my first teacher put Cissy Strut on by "BassTape" and encouraged me to get the Meters Anthology. I've always loved the Groovin Simplicity that he brought to the sound. I seem to recall hearing him say something about retiring his 60's P-bass from touring a couple of years ago... though I'm sure he has more than one.. Either way, still one of the best IMO and a damn shame of all the crap that went down with the Meters rights... I think he deserves the opportunity to pass his music in terms of rights and finances on to his family or whomever he wishes....
I think that as lowenders the Meters Anthology is a MUST have!

I have one coming, but I got this from his site: The Warren Haynes Band features a hand-picked band including R&B kingpins Ron Johnson on bass, Terence Higgins on drums, Nigel Hall on keyboards, Ron Holloway on saxophone and Alecia Chakour on vocals.

...this 2 cd + DVD set arrived yesterday.

Beautifully filmed (especially since I was just hitting on some of the highlights from the T.A.M.I Show DVD) & a nice band...but no George Porter.
    Cool version of "Pretzel Logic".

Huh. Maybe porter didn't feel up to a live deal. Who knows, but I'm surprised he wasn't back for a 2nd release.
