Gentlemen, I would like your opinion of this bass . . . http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3756002806&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT Anyone familiar with these? How close is 5/8 in actual size compared to 3/4 ? What should be the maximum bid? I am considering an Englehardt EM1. Would this be a better choice?
i'm not saying i would buy a bass sight unseen or without playing and feeling it...but that bass looks like a better bass than an engelhardt....if pictures will tell you anything. AND i've seen those pics on here in the for sale forum. i forget who but someone was selling that bass here....donZ maybe???
I think you're right wonka....Z? Bass looks pretty damn good. Still. you gotta see and play before purchase. There's just no way around it!
WILLYWONKA and WARBOOTY's 300-year-old memory is still pretty good. I somehow remember the thread title or message title when you guys said you remembered it... something like "mmmm.... ribs". So the handy dandy search tool was pretty good and came up with: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134821 Cheers.
Blessings on both you cats ( wonka and diddy ) (and freakin' for bringin' it up in the first place) You know what this means?? It means I have a memory!!
I don't know if I would go that far. Did you remember your Aricept today. I thought those pics looked familiar as well. az
I have played that Bass of Don's. I don't know why he's selling it so cheap. I would expect at least double for that Bass or somewhere nearer to 2K. It IS a carved Bass. The 5/8 size IS smaller than a 3/4 and ideal for Solo, Chamber, Jazz or a smaller person. Ask Don for the measurments of the Bass....
Ken, I'm curious what you thought about the tone of this bass. I have been looking for a tiny bass for solo work, possibly even for tenor (A,D,G,C) tuning. Do you think it could project in a small hall? It looks solid, but did it feel like it would last? Because, man that looks easy to get around.
GoodBass, I think Don's 5/8ths Bass is in great shape. If taken care of, as will any decently made Basses, it will out last you. If you can, come to Pa. Bring your 1739 Italian along as well to compare. Also, I would love to see your old Bass as well. Don is just down the road from me so I would host your visit just for the privlege of trying your Bass.
I never forget mine, unless I forget, or I don't remember. What's that big wooden thing over there! az
I wish I knew the leftovers from what WARMBUTTOCKS has forgotten about DB. Seriously doubt, though, that 'AT'SMYFLY,MAN meant any harm by it. PS...that sure is a purty bass.
