am i outta my mind or what?

as Ari mentioned in my MTD thread, i've got the GAS bug BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!

this is gonna be one of the Tune "Wood" basses.

i'm after a 4 string fretless with System 1 electronics.

when i ordered my Zon Lightwave years ago, Joe Z sent me a loaner 4 string lightwave sonus, ash bod with a gorgeous blue finish.

MAN, that thing was a PLAYER! super light! the 4 string lightwave sounds a lot different than the 5 string i eventually got.

i wanted to buy that 4 banger off of Joe, but he wouldn't sell it.

anxious to have an historical System 1 bass to round out my LW collection.

hopefully, i'll pick it up in the next couple of weeks.

    pics then!

    Cool!

System 1 electronics = set mid frequency boost cut (not sweepable)? Or, is it something else?

    What will the woods be?

    Still keeping that TBC? :bag:

man, it has been so long since i upgraded my Zon LW from Sys1 to Sys2, that i've forgotten.

if i remember correctly, the Sys1 has no mid, just bass and treble.

my connection has a few to choose from, so i'm not sure what woods yet.

i THINK it may be a padauk model.

    can't wait to peruse.

    funny you mention that.

i just broke out both of my LW TBC's last weekend.

though they aren't as "high end" as my other critters, they sure play and sound awesomely.

which one were you referring to?

I was thinking about the fretless one, with the spalted something top and the pretty dark board. The purpleheart one is sweet too, of course.

Post the different Tune possibilities when you can!

What do you remember being different between system 1 and the newer ones besides the mid control? I have one of the prototype system 1's (at least the manual says that and Joe Z. did say it was an EARLY one) , and I've pondered getting the system 2...

I kinda feel 2 things for the 2 over the 1, and that is the mid control (I use an outboard perimetric w/ the LW for the mids) and the bridge. The bridge on the series 1 is kinda a pain. The intonation on this bass is even across the strings, but is way off. Its like a whole step off at the 24th fret...which is hard to work with sometimes...

...so what is it that is tapping your desire for a system 1?

the IceTone circuit was noticeably harsher with the Sys1.

yes, i agree. some have cut off the edges of the shrouds in order to pluck closer to the bridge.

i don't recommend that as it acts as a shield to prevent ambient lighting interfering with the optics.

hmmm, i forget if the bridge has slots that provide intonation adjust.

the system 2 hardware is cool in that the monoliths are adjustable per string.

I take it that you want a series 1 just to round out the collection then?

...btw, how are the series 2 w/ flash photography? The series 1 make a nice popping sound when a pic is taken... I wonder if this could become a problem for bigger concert situations (not that I'm ever expecting myself to be in that situation :)

    hmmm...

you are correct sir! plus, i remember missing the treble control for a bit when i went sys2.

hmmm, interesting question. i've never thought about that.

i will ask the men behind the curtain.
