I've searched but couldn't really find the answer I quiet looking for. I've been lusting after a Vintage EB-3 and love the tones I can get from one but cant afford one at the moment. I understand the Epiphone is long scale and most the Gibsons are short scale and can attribute to tone but are the pretty close to sounding alike for the most part? Most clips I seen on the Epiphone seem like they can sound pretty similar but a lot of the clips are really poor quality or beginners. Anybody with experience with both would be greatly appreciated.

  2. The biggest difference are the pickups. While the Epiphone has the vintage "sidewinder" mudbucker in the neckposition, the Gibson has a modified TB+ pickups from the thunderbird, which sound a little bit more open and less bassy. They are very close sounding, but there is a significant difference! When I get home, I'll post some clips with a modern sg bass, a vintage eb0 (with the pickup in the middle) and a sixties eb2 (which is comparable with the eb3 in terms of tone)

Thanks looking forward to hearing it!

  4. It's been 2 years apart in terms of recording (the SG bass is the oldest, there I'm playing the sloppiest)

    SG:

If you're after that vintage growl, go for a shortscale equiped with flatwounds and a sidewinder humbucker (can be bought aftermarket)

What about a very, very rad Cream's Jack Bruce Gibson EB-1?!
    Cream-05[1].

    Cheers,
