I recently picked up the faded version of the reissue SG bass and am loving it. I had a thought recently though. Has anyone looked into the feasibility of converting the controls / wiring to EB-3 style? Obviously it'd be a pretty big mod to the bass. What do you all out there think? Is this good idea? Bad idea maybe? Not worth it? :) I have to admit it'd be pretty scary to do something like that to my nice new bass.

What do you feel you're missing with the VVT? If it's the caps switched in with the Varitone you could always replace one or more of the existing pots with push/pull ones and add the caps into the circuit.

If you go cutting on a Gibson sooner or later you will regret it.

Well, I've been wondering if the VVT is giving me all of the tone options that the original setup did. Plus the look is just so classic, too.

Also something I'm concerned about. That and something going wrong and ending up with a paperweight. :)

  6. I've cut up Gibsons before with no ill effect. The big problem will be trying to find a Varitone circuit, which are pretty much impossible to find.
