gig-bags or soft-cases: Did you get one from GC?

Discussion in 'Accessories [BG]' started by Killed_by_Death, Jun 16, 2020.

  1. Yes, everything was included

  2. No gig-bag or soft-case was included, even though the manufacturer ships it with one

  3. No, but the manufacturer didn't supply one

  4. I only buy new in box, not showroom floor demos!

  5. I don't carrot all about those things!

This has been a point of contention when former GC employees get involved & claim GC does not throw out or sell gig-bags & soft-cases that come with mid-level priced instruments.

I'm not a former employee, but the local GC keeps whatever came w/ the instrument as a matter of process. There's been one instance where they previously gave the wrong case to someone on a new instrument I was buying & they got a new replacement for it for me within the week at no additional charge (as it should be).

Heck, they even hooked me up w/ a leftover case candy packet they had in back when I came in there w/ my used Lee Ranaldo JM I'd found at another GC that was missing it... They might be the exception, but so far every guitar or bass I've bought at another road trippable GC came w/ a case or gig bag.

If some place pulled that on a new instrument for me they better be knocking a substantial amount (like at least retail price for the replacement) off on top any other negotiated discount or I wouldn't be buying it there.

i would have voted for both of these

    1. No gig-bag or soft-case was included, even though the manufacturer ships it with one
    2. No, but the manufacturer didn't supply one
    but wasn't able to.

the basses/guitars i've gotten online from GC always came with the cases/gigbags because they're still in the manufacturer box. the basses/guitars i've gotten in store never came with the case/gigbag. one guy at hollywood GC told me they throw them away, and one of the cases was so crappy i could easily believe it.

TBH I'd rather not have added the option for "manufacturer didn't include one", but I KNOW from experience that someone would want that.
Please vote for the situation where the manufacturer did include one.

  5. I bought a custom shop NOS series ‘56 Strat in white blonde years ago from GC. They could not find the case and paperwork, certificate of authenticity etc. It was drastically reduced due to minor damage from being on the floor. They did concede to throw in a tweed store brand hard shell case.

A year or more later I get a call they found the case with all goodies in tact. I asked about getting the proper case and returning the one I had but the manager wanted what I thought at the time an excessive up charge so I declined to get the proper case. I did go in and get the other stuff that went with the guitar. I’ve often wondered since if I should have just bit the Bullet and I’d have a nicer Custom Shop Fender case meant to go with the guitar. I later bought a matching Tele that has the better case.

    Only other GC case story-
I traded 2 treble guitars with gig bags for a used ESP bass. I knew what I had in the guitars and saw it as equal trade but on the surface better for them (duh) because they could get more for my trades than the single bass.

The wife had said you’re not buying another bass and I said what if I can make a trade? That’s how this one came about. The salesman balked on including a gig bag. I said we both know each of mine is worth what you can get for your bass so I’m walking if you don’t include a bag. I got a Roadrunner bag.

ESP basses go for about $2k USD new, so you must have traded some nice guitars!

    Comes with a case, though...

I'm a firm believer that most branches throw out the bag when they put it on display, but I suppose there could be some stores where they don't.
I just know that when I have bought a new showroom demo instrument they never came with gig-bags, soft-cases, or the tool-kit, & the staff showed no signs of looking for it, because they knew damn well it had been thrown out or sold.

Sam Ash is the same, FWIW.

Only instrument I've ever bought from GC was a Lakland Skyline 55-02D maybe 10 or 15 years ago. At the time it did not come with a case. According to GC were I to buy one now the case would still not be included. I cannot tell from Lakland's site whether a case is supposed to be included with that bass.

So, um ...what was the question?
