I took five years off after my brother/co-band leader/lead singer died suddenly. We had played together for 45 years, and run the same band for 30 years. Last fall I decided that sitting around was not getting me anywhere, and I got back to it. I've been subbing, and running a jam. Last night was my first headliner since un-retiring. Booking the best room in the area wasn't easy, as an unknown quantity, so I stacked the deck, called in a favour, and got David Henman- Rock and Roll hall of fame, and Juno lifetime acheivment award winner to OPEN for me. Irony. David and his wife did a wonderful set of originals, then we took the stage, playing from the three Kings songbook- Freddie, B.B. and Albert, in a power trio format. David came to join us for a couple of pre-arranged tunes, and a guitar summit erupted. We became a four piece then and there. Tight rhythm section, and loose guitars made the blues come alive! Kudos to the house soundman- Everyone told us the sound was primo, and the monitors were certainly about perfect, considering a power trio has to kick some butt for it not to sound thin. Oh Yeah...bass forum. I used my GK rig- RB1001, and two neo 12 cabs. I brought a my relic P, a Anniversary J, and a G&L L-1500 for the funky stuff. Home late...back at it for the jam in a couple of hours........
Hi, There you go! That's the way to make a comeback! It looks like everyone was having fun. I'm glad it went well. In addition to your jam sessions, are you making plans for more shows too? What was this venue? Gotta link? Thanks for sharing. Thank you for your indulgence, BassCliff
it's nice to drop names when you're 'on the bill', too! glad your event was a success, but i'm even gladder that the players had the 'right stuff' (monitors/FOH) to showcase the awesome talent! good luck on your continuing journey!
Good on ya'!! Glad to see anyone getting back down to business. Looks like you were all enjoying the moment. Now, a little bourbon and cigar talk......... I like your Jazz bass and all , but.............. Tell me about that flaked out Strat with the Tele neck!!! Gorgeous !! C'mon, dish!!!!!
Way to go @Paulabass! Always Smart to get a Juno Award winning, rock n roll hall of famer on stage with you to buttress the situation! Awesome rig by the way, and looks like you guys had an awesome time rocking out ; Keep at er' eh?!
It's all in the name of self promotion. I needed a 'name' ringer on my poster, and an old friend was willing to help out. Reverse irony- his own band is very arrangement oriented, and he enjoyed being with our 'fly by the seat of your pants' philosophy.
Ha! I spot Reif in the pics. I played with him for a few years - stellar guy. Never expected his pic to pop up on Talkbass.
