So time to post my small, condensed, less than Cliff's by a long shot gig report. The venue only opened on May 20th and due to strategic placement across from the street from a boat ramp with lots of dock space and a boat ramp, they've been doing a gangbuster business. On average they serve around 400 people on a Sunday! That being said it's a very transient crowd, they park the boat, walk over, place an order, eat and have a drink, hang around a little and than head back out on the water. My best guess is we had anywhere from 50-100 people to play for at any one time, but they served over 600 meals yesterday! Very different atmosphere. Let's see, I think I even got a food shot for people used to a BassCliff report, but sadly don't have any from the stage at the venue. I'll skip the load up, it's still my red Edge, still adult Tetris getting it all in. Uneventful drive on rural highways, but I'll skip those too because I'm sure you all know what trees and farm fields look like. The smoker at the venue, a converted semi, it's pretty monstrous and puts out a delicious aroma of home cooked goodness all day long! I remembered, a food shot. Smoked wings and they're home style creamy coleslaw, washed down with a tap of Spotted Cow, delicious! Phone video, a short clip.
Hi @WI Short Scaler, Chris! Most excellent! Wow! That is some kind of smoker! Is it actually mobile? I wouldn't think so, but what a classy looking piece of retro-useful-goodness. I think it's kind of amazing. The weather looked fine. The stage looks nice. And the food looked outstanding. I have enjoyed a few Spotted Cows when I'm in the area. Good stuff. Thank you for your indulgence, BassCliff
It was mobile when it was towed there. Now, not so much. The trailer portion is now used for "controls" of the whole system. At night the lights all come on, looks cool, and like I said, smells delicious!
I think outdoor gigs are gonna be the thing this year, we played our first in months at a local winery this weekend and it was a bit of alright, lovely bucolic setting and the owner treated us very well , though the rain and lightning moved in sunday and cut the third set short. I love playing outdoors in the summer time, we have all winter to play indoors which I guess will remain to be seen later this year. The BBQ'd chichen and slaw looks pretty scrumptious
good show! nice report! all the essentials --- thanks for that food shot! and thanks for sharing your gig experience!
You got a food shot but no pic of the Spotted Cow!!!! Congrats on a cool gig and I want that smoker too!!!
Not to bore anyone but this photo was just shared with me last night and I used it on our FB page. If the smiles are any indication we sure had a fun first gig. Carmen stepped up, she worked hard to be ready through all the time we couldn't practice due to shutdowns and things went off very well. Sure there was some rust but some of that was on our parts as well. It just felt so good to be playing again!
Mmm...smoked wings in a diesel vinaigrette...tasty! Awesome gig report – thanks very much for posting it.
Nice sounding little band ... but the FOOD ... that's the bomb... I'm sending your name to Guy Fieri.
Thanks, we were so happy for a first gig. I can easily see going back there just to eat next time. The owner has another place in town so we did well in the interest of future gigs!
Thank you! We intend to do just that. Yes we had one member quit, which is huge in a 3 pc. He was our lead vocalist and cajon player, guitarist and I are the same. We were pretty apprehensive at the possibility of finding a replacement singer that could/would play cajon so we're thrilled that Carmen agreed to give the cajon a shot, we already knew she was a great singer. We only got in a couple practices with her before the shutdown, but she worked hard to be up to speed once we could resume practice. Love that we have a future again!
Very cool. I suppose this was one gig for which shorts and flip-flops were perfectly acceptable dress. - John
Well, from that one clip I thought you guys sounded great IMHO. Always nice to have a female voice in the mix. And you didn’t sound too bad on lead yourself! EDIT typo
Sounded great Chris! I really love the volume level with a cajon over bashing drums. Really good harmonies too.
