5883BF84-468B-49BD-A837-892A2FAE4CBD.jpeg First gig report in a while -extremely light on pics (until the wife gets up because my phone is camera free [working for the Feds can be a drag sometimes]) but I’ll link up some more later so check for updates.

I’ve been working with this band for a while and we got the opportunity to finally gig test this group by doing a freebie - a benefit for the Kiwanis organization. Kitsap County is pretty well infected with microbreweries so, while the music was free the beer was not, but they donated their wares for the good cause.

We were “headlining” this gig...because we owned the PA, and our soundman was doing sound for the event. Now, I realize there’s probably a disconnect there - but the Relics is a local band that’s been going for about 20 years up here, and none of us aren’t new at this. I’ve been with them now for 4 months, even though I’ve worked with some of the players for 10+ years. They played the same show last year, so they asked and we of course said yes.

We showed up around 3:30 to get the system set up - powered QSC speakers with a brand new rack mounted mixer which is WiFi controlled - WAY beyond the rigs I’m used to working with LOL. Pics forthcoming when I can get in touch with the sound engineer - but I was really impressed with not having to run a 300’ snake out to where the mixer got set up. Took minimal time to set up, about 30 minutes.

CE9CB619-9EFB-44BC-B4C0-402BB9EE3B02.jpeg First 2 bands that were playing were jazz bands. Phenomenal players and when I can find video of them I’ll post them. Was really impressed with the bass player of the first band - upright bassist who played like he’d been playing for decades. Hoping I can find some soon.

Anyway, everyone played their allotted times and we went on about 7 minutes late, so about 7:30 we went on. Played our song....

    POOF.

Mixer stopped sending all signal to the speakers. Until then there hadn’t been an issue but all of a sudden we were stuck.

    Not. Cool.

As the sound person is ripping apart the rack, someone who had played there prior said wait, did you reboot the WiFi?

Turns out there’s an issue at the location which is located next to a Ferry Dock - WiFi apparently cuts out for some reason that the City of Kingston is trying to figure out. Not in time for us but eventually they’ll get it.

So we only were able to play about 40 minutes after the system got rebooted. Video is coming ASAP but it really went well. No food pics because I didn’t eat until we got home.

    Sorry.

  6. Hi,

I'm looking forward to more pictures. I hope I don't see kids drinking too much beer, as the title suggests. ;)

Last Sunday John had some trouble with his digital mixer at our outdoor event. But it wasn't the wifi. His old iPad overheated and shut down. He couldn't control anything until it cooled off and rebooted. I don't know, sometimes I still like analog in certain situations.

It looked like a nice day for your gig. I hope you have a good run with your new ensemble.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Thanks BassCliff it went well. Not as good as I’d have hoped, but at least we were able to carry on. Wife is still crashed out...she was complaining about not feeling well, hoping she’s not sick, so while more pics are coming it will be some time.

Analog seems to be less troublesome, Digital comes with its own set of headaches. Looking forward to gig pics/video

Heard you better on the first video. Tone sounds good. Your singer is top notch. Please post more vids as you play out this season!

  15. She’s quite good. I like her voice. Nice guitar work on that tune too.

  16. Thanks for sharing. You guys sounded good. We've had some issues with our tablet dropping out too. Sometimes the fix is to turn everything off and turn it back on. We've also found that if we leave the main tablet attached and use a different tablet to remote mix, it seems to work better. I hope you can find your own solution.

Actually debating bringing a spare mixer just in case. Either that or using a cell phone for a hotspot.

As far as food pics go, I’m doing a few slabs of ribs tonight. I’ll see if the wife will let me use her phone lol.

"Brew Fest and Benefit Concert" sounds more responsible than "Beer for Kids", but the second one sounds more amusing... Until the inevitable clean-up. :D
