Gig with Air Supply!

Discussion in 'Bass Humor & Gig Stories [BG]' started by Esquillama, Feb 13, 2006.

  1. Well... not WITH them, but they played at the same casino
that we did this weekend. We got to sneek in and see them
for a bit between our shows.
They sounded great. They had three sidemen with them,
keys, bass, and drums. Other than that, it was just the two
main guys. Their voices have held up very well.

After their last show, they stayed out in the lobby area and
signed autographs and posed for pictures for about 3 hours.

We had to let them use the dressing room on Friday night,
but we got it back after they left. I scored a couple of
"Air Supply" sharpies that were left behind.

Anyway, it was fun to see a band that I grew up listening to.

Not too long ago, we played there when Foriegner was there.
That was a great show as well.

On a side note, our shows on Friday and Saturday went really well.
Sunday was a little slower, but I guess that's to be expected.

Jonnie Lightfoot plays bass for them these days I think. He's an unbelievable player. And I'm almost ashamed that I know anything about Air Supply

When I worked for ZON, I had to drop off a Piccolo ZON legacy for Jonni, so I went to their show in Oakland. It was me, my girlfirend, and about 60 Asian people in a big Auditorium. Don't ask me why its gotta be an Asian thing, I don't know. Thats who was there. So they came out, and played ALL the hits, and changed outfits between every song. Jonnie Lightfoot meanwhile is holding it down as solid as anyone could be expected to hold it down beneath "I'm all out of love" and "every woman in the world". After the show, I went backstage, dropped off the bass to Jonnie and asked him how he landed a gig like this. He said they go over to Asia and sell out stadiums there. Bigger than life superstars over there still, then they come back and play in Theatres and auditoriums here. Except in Miami apparently. Air supply is still king in Miami..... He said he loves it, its a great gig. I guesss I could see that, if you can get past the velvet, sequins, and crappy lyrics.

He even said that when they play full length shows, they let Jonni take a big long bass solo on stage by himself for as long as he wants. In front of sold out stadiums, thats pretty wicked!
  6. I don't remember any of the guys names (there were 3)
that were playing in the band. They were all youngish
and very talented. They had a very solid and professional sound.
