Girlfriend's apartment destroyed

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by Chris J, Mar 23, 2005.

  1. Last night at about 2am a fire started in a pizza joint. The building the fire started in was connected to my girlfriend's apt. So to prevent the fire from spreading her windows were smashed and the apt was sprayed with foam. The fire dept closed off about 4 blocks around the area because the fire was so bad. The building the fire started in looks like it was shelled out. You can see into all the apartments. Like a cross-section. My girlfriend's apt, luckily, was in the adjacent building. So there was no fire damage to her apartment. But all her stuff is ruined from smoke and water damage. And now she's living with me along with her cat. The Ottawa fire dept was great. They let her into her apt with an escort to look for her cat. Very helpful and understanding guys. Anyway, she's here with me with nothing but a jacket, the clothes on her back, her cat, and a half-dead cell phone. What a day. :bawl:

 thankfully her and the cat are ok... and they had a nice warm place to go!!!!

I hope the insurance process is quick and fair!

i hope this all works out in the end!

  5. Regarding insurance, I have a feeling her landlord is going to use the money to make up for the lost rent. And I'm not sure if my girlfriend's dad was insured or not. Well until she can go get her passport and some money, it's going to be a difficult few days.

Good luck to her with the whole recovery process, and good luck to you in having to be there for her. It's a flattering time when you have the chance to make a real difference in someone's life like you're doing now, but it can be a very trying time too.

Good to hear she's OK - I took a tour down by the site while the boys were still out on the roof dowsing the flames yesterday a.m. (I've got one of them shiny badges). Haven't seen a site like that since the big Glebe fire a few years ago.

Is there anything she needs, specifically - jacket, boots, etc?

  8. Wow dude, I'm really sorry to hear. Thankfully both herself and her cat are safe. Belongings can be replaced, but these two cannot, so give her an extra hug or two, and tell her she looks hot in those slept in clothes. ;)

sorry to hear that as well... gladfully the furball and your girl are safe!

One of my friends in Somerville left a candle on his Leslie speaker and the first floor of the apt was pretty torced, but not eveything was lost. The landlord took the insurance money, renovated the place and told the inhabitants that leases will not be renewed... cause he planning on selling it.
  10. I was there Wednesday morning at 7am. Maybe I saw you. You didn't happen to be the police officer on the corner of gladstone and bank did you? Kinda blocking the way? Or the guy in the massive Police van closer to Gilmour?

And as far as needs, her dad just got her a boit of new clothes. Luckily the weather is getting really nice.

Good to hear everyone is OK.

And even better to hear that she brought her pussy over to your place. :eyebrow:

I'm sorry to hear about that. I've been in her shoes recently and that's a very difficult situation.

If she's staying with you for the duration, I hope you're a patient man because you'll need to be.
  13. Sorry to here about that......

Well someones got to say this.... Did your girlfreind's pussy get all wet???? :D
  14. At first when people said this I thought to myself "What the hell? Why is that?" Well now that the shock is wearing off she's starting to get really upset. She's realising that she's lost all her stuff. So when there's nothing I can do to cheer her up, yeah that's really frustrating just because I want to help. Oh well, I can't say I'd be easily cheered up after the same ordeal. There were some pretty intense pictures of the blaze in today's papers. Here's the best I could find so far.

Her place was 2 units to the left of the left wall.

Sometimes i wonder... if my room burns down what i would do... i think i be pretty happy because 90% of stuff in my room is trash... it be so much easier then cleaning it... just need to calculate if laziness is worth what’s in it... its a hard one...

Hope you guys get back on your fit:)

  16. Apparently the fire marshalls are investigating. They said in the paper that the fire was "suspicious" so who knows. People said they smelled gas and then smoke before the alarm went off. So sounds to me like either natural gas (if that has a smell) leaked and blew up or gasoline was used for insurance fraud or something. If that's the case then that's the most selfish thing someone could do. Burn their business and put 20 people out of a home for a few bucks.

I hope for all of y'all's sake, that isn't the case.

What's important is that no one was hurt, right?
  18. Yeah none of the residents were hurt. Two firemen got hurt but minor injuries only. It's a really weird feeling. Every now and then one of us will say something along the lines of "Do you want to watch/do/read something?" "Oh wait that's in your apt" There's a smokey jacket in my closet from her apt. Grab my jacket, instantly back at the scene. Ugh.

Glad everyone is ok, looks pretty bad from the picture you posted. It's good that there were no casualties.
  20. Thanks for the kind words everyone. There may be a chance to go into the place this weekend to get some of her stuff but I'm skeptical. At least school is almost done and in the summer we'll be less busy with all this junk. There's another pic here.
