Well, I was going to wait until my 1000th post to put this one up, but one day before Thanksgiving makes it even more appropriate to do it ahead of time. I've been a member here for about a year and a half, just after since I decided it was time to pick the bass back up again after a long hiatus. Needless to say I've found that there are a ton of incredible people on this board willing to help, willing to converse. Within that 18 months, I've also found the gear that suits me and my playing style, something I've never really remember having before. Therefore, here is a list of folks who, in no particular order, I give a sincere thanks to, for helping me satisify the GAS... Nino Valenti As everyone knows, Nino is a very cool guy, as well as an incredible craftsman. He's created quite a unique niche in the bass world, offering custom-ordered and assembled basses that blow the socks of a lot of more expensive alternatives. My Valenti would be what I consider the steal of the century in value-to-overall satisfaction. I'm sure we've all seen a plethora (yes, I was just waiting to use that word) of Nino's works, but I'm loving mine the best. Thanks, Nino! Adrian Garcia Adrian's experiences, both in selling and playing some of the best basses in the world in touring and recording situations make him one of the best authorities on what basses would fit what budgets and styles. When I originally came to Adrian asking about Nordstrand and F Bass, he was kind enough to take the amount of time that is typically reserved for family. He treats everyone the same, whether you've met him before or not, and that to me spells class all the way. He's also the man personally responsible for turning me on to F Basses in the first place. I'm also glad that karma is leaning his way with his recent personal battles. Thanks Adrian! George Furlanetto I'm sure I don't have to repeat this, but George builds some of the most incredible basses, ever. Every time I pick up one of my F's it feels like I've been playing it forever. The feel, the tone, the looks. They are the total package. Thanks George! My Wife Last, and definately not least (probably first), my wife who allowed me to buy the incredible instruments I play. I may not have picked the instrument back up if not for her, so Thanks Kath! I'm sure there are others out there who I've come in contact with in buying and selling gear, so thanks to you as well. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Lovely looking basses you have there AJ! It's great to hear of someone who's thankful and greatful for what they have. We obviously don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here, but to all my fellow bass players and musicians over in the good ol' US of A, Happy Thanksgiving!
Aj, I am thankful for so many things i can't even begin to list them- I am thankful that you mention me in your thanks, I am thankful that God has blessed me in ongoing battle with cancer, I am thankful for ALL His blessings which include an amaziNg amount of support from the online bass community- thank each and every one of you for your prayers and contributions, I am overwhelmed. I am thankful for a great gig that awaits me in Feb, for a wonderful daughter, mother, sister and nieces. My F bass, my GK rigs, being able to play bass for a living. and above all, I am thankful for the Lord God's everlasting love and Grace !!!
Being in Australia now, I don't get a chance to celebrate Thanksgiving like I used to...I miss it...I miss the times with my family, the great food...the comradory...but, I am still thankful...I am thankful where the Lord has taken me...my new life in Australia, my lovely wife, my beautiful children...the opportunity to pursue my passion in music...the opportunity to share with others my passion through TB... I believe that God deserves all the thanks, but you all can have some too I've enjoyed your always-positive posts, AJ...and the way you appreciate everyone, here...definitely in the spirit of Talkbass for sure...thanks for that.. as far as bass...I'd like to thank...all you guys here for your outstanding skills, insight, knowledge, and helpfulness...I'd like to thank Steve Wishnevsky for providing me with a fun project ...I'd like to thank Nino Valenti, Mike Lull, Roger Sadowsky, Carey Nordstrand, Bud LeCompte, Hambone and George Furlanetto (to name just a few) for giving me some MAJOR GAS!!!! Thanks guys! Happy Thanksgiving, America!
Great thread, AJ! I'm thankful for lots o' things: ... chief among them the God who loved us all enough to send His Son to save us, and who continues to overwhelm me with His grace beyond measure as I trust Him for each day; ... For my beautiful wife and almost-grown kids and the wonder they bring into my life daily, and for the gift of parents who raised me with love; ... For the ability to play a little bit and own such fine instruments, for the friends I've made through playing bass, and for the joy given and received in making music with others, particularly music to worship by; ... For the gift of today and one more chance to enjoy all the above.
My wife, my daughter and a high power watching over all of us. AG, praise God that your here bro. I almost lost my best friend to ALS a few years ago (he's 2 1/2 years post bone marrow transplant) and did loose another friend to cancer last year. When I heard about you, thoughts and prayers went out. I'm just thankful, too overwhelmed to be outright specific really, just thankful.
Hey AJ, Much like you, I've just gotten back into the bass thing over the past year as well after a long hiatus. This board and many of the people on it have been an indispensible resource in helping me "find my way" through all that is bass these days. I've got tons of stuff to be thankful for, but I'll keep it bass-related for our purposes here... I'm extremely thankful that my wonderful wife hasn't choked me or thrown me out of the house due to my GAS as of late and that she supports my playing. 4 basses and a rig in 8 months... but I promise I'm done (well, for a coupe months at least) Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to everyone. Oh yeah... AJ, I'd be really thankful if you gave me one one of those F basses too. --- Chris
Thank you God for your many blessings. Thank you Jesus Christ for being my Savior. Thank you Holy Spirit for your guidance. Thank you Blessed Virgin Mary for your intercessions on my behalf and for comforting me in my times of need. And last but not least, I'm very thankful that I have a great wife and two beautiful daughters. - Derwin
Here's to the American fighting men and women who've successfully kept the wolf away from the door for over two hundred years. That's what I'm thankful for.
Things/people i'm grateful for: Adrian Garcia Without him and Keith Roscoe i wouldn't have the instrument that has carried me through my ups and lows over the past few years. Nor would my grandfather's dying wish of giving me something special to pass down through the family have come true. Good to see you back bro. Nino Valenti Nino's an all around great guy. He's curretnly building my stealth fretless and has bee putting up with all my crap as if it weren't annoying. Thanks man. Hope you're feeling better by the time you read this. Tom and Joker I've bugged the hell out of these guys with questions about cabs and amps and they've always been incredibly helpful and informative. You guys are really helping me progress through my fledgling career as a bass player. Can't thank you enough. JPJ You're the man. Not only is he working with me to spec my upcomming pair of NX6s, but he's also been answering tons of questions for me ever since he's been here. Whenever i get a e-mail from him it makes me feel like i'm talking to a good friend. Grateful? Yes indeed i am. Jive I've bugged the hell out of this guy for the last three days about getting a cab and he's been nothing but helpful (well maybe a little fed up ). All my cab related business is going to this guy first from now on. Thanks Jong. Stew You're just cool as hell man . I'm grateful you've pushed through all the obstacles that've been put in front of you and kept your wits about you...unless you've gone insane(er?) and i just don't know about it, in that case let's just say i'm glad you're still around. Brad Jackson Thanks for letting me feel like i'm taking part in the birth of something that i think will be on the lips of bassplayers for years to come. It gives me a cool feeling knowing i had even the smallest input. And thanks for giving a crap about what we think! My SKB3006 This thing has seen me though ALOT in the last few years and i love playing it more every single day. All you TB'ers You guys rock. I wouldn't be half the player i am without most of you guys. All your different views and knowledge are priceless and greatly appriciated. Sorry for all the sap! I hope everyone has a fantastic thanksgiving and an even better christmas and new year's! Drew R. Felder
I'm thankful for finding a good home for my old steinie L2 and in turn buying myself my first Sadowsky!
Steve Franks - (Superbass - now gone) For hooking me up with my first awesome bass (Roscoe LG-3005), which I still have, even tho I've been a mad crazy trader/buyer/seller these last 5 years since I picked the bass back up again. Adrian Garcia - hooking me up with a pair of Zon basses, both of which are incredible instruments, one of which is absolutely magical (fretless). For putting up with all my calls on these and other instruments, including a very long term custom order that, in the end, didn't make the cut and was sold. For being a beautiful person and a better friend than I thought possible without ever having met in person. Joe Zon and Co. - Incredible instruments and customer service. Glenn Kawamoto - For expertly hooking me up with the MTD that will likely be with me forever, from a choice of MANY options. Mike Tobias - For being as responsive as he has been despite his heavy work load, and for making such unreal instruments. I consider it to be a privilege to own one. Joel Cataldo - for the hand-selected 55-02 that I'm convinced is better than most others out there, and for what may eventually be the most unique thing I will own beginning in 2006. Dan Lakin - for allowing me to make an impromptu visit to the factory and making sure I was given a tour even on such short notice (an hour), and for making his unique product available to the masses via the Skyline series and the 55-02 I continue to enjoy. Bob Gallien - For taking time out of his busy schedule to make a very special birthday present for a close friend. Paul and COUNTLESS other TB members - For being some of the most incredible people I've "never" met, and one of the very finest communities of any kind anywhere. Anyone else I've forgotten - both my appologies as well as my heartfelt thanks. Leo Fender - for making all this possible to begin with. God - For always being there, and for granting a love and grace I can't possibly fathom, and for all the many blessings I enjoy, the greatest of which being my family. AJ Brown - for being thoughtful enough to have started this thread.
Just a quick thanks to everyone involved in this forum, from the admins to the posters, for making this the most civil, informative, and entertaining forum i've ever been a part of.
* To my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for loving me (and all of us) enough to die for me. What an incredible gift that I could never repay or live up to. Thank you for your love, for my life and every day I am allowed to breath, see the sun rise and see my family. * My wife Heather. Who is the most beautiful woman in the world. The greatest mother I have seen and an incredible wife. She doesn't blink an eye over gear and shares my dream (she sings) with me and we work together to that end. * My kids. Ashley my first born with such much love andlife and wonder in her eyes. Her kindness and compassion for others. My son, for his non-stop energy and imagination. For that look in him where I can see the strong man he will become. And for our newest addition Allison. For the smiles she just began to make and the little girl she is going to grow into. * For ability to play again after having struggled with tendinitis and carpel tunnel. * For Roger Sadowsky for making THE bass I have been searching for since I began playing over 20 years ago. * For Eden for believing in me and the projects I am involved in. * For all my friends including those I have made on here (too many to list but you know who you are). * For each and every man and woman serving our country and making it possible to live it this great country and allow us to be free. For their selfless sacrifice. Life is great. I could not ask for more and I need to think about that more often everyday. Lord please help me remember that everyday and live in a way of thankfulness and gratitude for what HE has given me. May God Bless you all and your families!
+1 My original intent was to keep my thanks bass-specific for this thread, but it goes without saying that there are people making sacrifices... family, friends, strangers. Gear doesn't matter one iota without the love of the people. If I had to list my blessings I would probably crash this board, so another THANKS! goes out to everyone and everything that have made this life a treasure.
Im gonna say thanks to God first because he's kept me grounded, and shown me love and blessed me with a wonderful family. Thanks to all of YOU guys for being a fantastic COMMUNITY AND FAMILY! I feel like I know all of you without ever actually having met any of you. So much respect and love to all of you on this Thanksgiving. And to anyone traveling today please be safe!! James
wow...hmm what can I be thankful for... Ibanez- even though some people don't like your basses, I love them. You make incredible prestige basses and because I own the 6 string version, I play it everyday and don't want to stop. Incredible bass, not selling this unless my life depends on it! My Parents- They let me buy a bass so that I could learn this wonderful art of playing. they also happened to buy me 1000 dollars worth of ampeg stuff this year ^^ Ampeg- You guys make wonderful amps, I love the tone, versatility, and the build quality. It's all amazing Leo Fender- I may not like all of your basses, but you deserve major props for inventing the electric bass, best instrument out there IMO The Creator's of talk bass-You guy's made an awesome forum that I come to every day and learn so much. This forum has inspried me to do alot, and has given me alot of ideas. thanks. Turkey- you are one freakin delicious animal, and we get to eat you every thanksgiving. Duct tape- what can't you fix? I mean, you fixed the scratched up paint job on my squier! good job. Thanks for making this topic, was a great idea. Greg
I myself found this place a little under a year ago after coming off of a 4 year bass sabbatical. It's the best place ever for bass players who strive for perfection ,killer gear, great advice and conversating with other bassists. I thank my family for putting up with my obsession with my music and basses/guitars, for keeping the "not another bass" comments to a minimum because it's what makes me happy. I'd also like to thank them for their support, emotional and physically, in all my music endeavours. Sometimes it's so easy to take family for granted, whether it be immediate or internet family, but when you step back and realize what all they've done for you it's not very hard to realize how lucky you are. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
