I'm looking into these two amps for my new rig. Rmcaudio sells the 2001rb for $1080 and most places I’ve seen sell the GB for $1200, although i found a site that had them for $1100. I use to own a old series 1001rb before they bumped it 200 watts, and it sounded great but didn't have the power to cut threw my guitarist dual rectifiers. I also use to own a GB tube works mostvalve 1x15 combo which had the best tone of any combo I’ve ever owned but only had 150 watts so its worked with my funk/hip hop band but got lost when i played in my metal band. Basically i would like to hear what the gear heads have to say about these two heads, and also I’d like to hear what other heads in this power range you guys recommend.

Oh and price range too, not just wattage!

You could also consider the Kustom GrooveBass 1200 and the Carvin B1500 (I own the latter).

I played the Groovebass yesterday and was very impressed with it, but its lacked warmth to me. Since i'll never be able to try out the b1500 being that i live in FL and their in CA, i probably won't get it unless i find more reviews on it. I really like have the tube driven pre that the GK and GB have. I also was considering a Eden wt800 which i have seen on ebay for 1080 used. These amps are going to drive the Avatar 4x10 neo cab that i plan on getting next week.

Did you read SMASH's big thread on the B1500?

    http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224326&highlight=carvin+b1500

    Or the Bass Player review?

You'll probably be fine with any of these amps. They're all good. It kinda comes down to personal preference. Personally, I've played every G-K from the 400 to the 2001, and I've owned Eden. I now have a B1500. Just my $0.02.

Man its tempting, i can save mega bucks if i get the carvin (enough to get the 2x12 avatar neo along with the 4x10 i was planing on getting). I just wish i could play one. Is there a link to the Bass Player review of the b1500????? Smash's review is very convincing i would say!

I don't think BP has that review on their site. If you want speakers too, you should check out Carvin's current BRX neo cabs. I don't think they'd be giving up anything to the Avatars in terms of quality, and you could get a package price if you go that way. Though I'm sure the Avs would be fine too.

Man the B1500 is sounding even more tempting after reading that Bass Player review. I think i'm still going to get avatar, the 4x10 cab is 34lbs. an 200 dollars chepaer same wattage and speakers, as a matter of fact it seems to be a better design as far as the handles go too. Although with the package deal the Carvin neo drops a hunderd dollars its still 34lbs heavier and 100 dollars more expencive.

Sorry the Carvin neo is actuall only 12 lbs heavier than the Avatar but i was wrong about the price as well. The carvin neo geos for 699 and the Avatar neo goes for 389. With the package deal from Carvin the cab drops a 100 dollars if you get the head with it. Avatar it is!

Nico, I think your math is a little off.
Why would anyone spend $1100 on a SS head when the B1500 is the best bang for your buck @ $699.

The GK has half the power the B1500 does.

    Gk $1100
    Avatar 389
    $1489 + shipping

    B1500
    BRX10.4NEO pkg $1299 + shipping

    Am I missing something?
$190 savings going w/the Carvin pkg deal & the cab is easily a huge step up from the Avatar. No rat fur on the cab!

    I own the B1500 w/BRX12 cab.

Blues Cat i know thats why in the last few reply's i 've only been talking about the Carvin. But i plan on sticking with Avatar as far as cabs go, the review on their cabs sold me more than the review for the brx neo's (bass Player).

I have an Older Genz Benz and I think it is a truly great amp. I can only imagine the improvements that have been made to the newer models. With the GB you can dial in the tube pre for warmth. The GB heads have a lot of flexibility and a real great build quality.
