GK 400RB combo question

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by funkpunker, Oct 1, 2003.

  1. Hey, I just got a new (very slightly used) GK400 combo, the one with the 15" speaker. I play a Warwick FNA Jazzman, and i have found that playing the low E often makes the speaker overdrive/distort. Is there any way of solving this issue, minus playing lighter (because i do a lot of the time). I'm just wondering if its that the output of the bass is too high or if it is a fault on the amp. My guess is the bass, but i really don't want a problem with my new baby! and it can also be a little annoying when you're playing and the amp suddenly distorts!

Any info you can give me would be great!

Try depressing the 10db switch if the bass is active.
  3. The 400 RB doesn't have a lot of headroom, and I imagine that the Warwick drives fairly hard, start by setting the pre-amp on the bass flat. and see if it helps.
  4. Press the pad switch in or set the volume knob to about 10 oclock. The preamp gain for the 400RB is too high in my opinion. You're likely hearing preamp distortion not speaker distortion.
