    Ok.

So I have an opportunity to sell my Ashdown MAG head, and buy an GK 400RB(first edition, pre-90's for sure).

I'm not asking about the power or the price. The thing that matters is the sound.

    Will the GK sound better?
    P.S.
Is 240$ a good price for GK?

$240 is at the high side of reasonable. The last two I bought were about that with shipping. If it's in good shape, it will be a bulletproof, great sounding amp. Very conservative on the power rating (very powerfull 200 watts).

I have never heard an Ashdown MAG. I am assuming that you don't like it if your looking at other amps.

    Good luck!

The old 400RB has become a classic.

Man, does the Ashdown Mag 300 look like someone else copied it, or what? Not to cast any aspersions, of course.

I would love to have an old 400RB, but I have not yet seen any for a price that seems reasonable to me. My point of comparison is that you can get a brand-new Backline 600 head for $300 with free shipping. It probably has roughly the same sound, with a bit more power, and of course you get the warranty.

On the other hand, the fact that an old 400RB sells for a sizeable fraction of the price of a 600BL, means that a lot of people must still consider the 400RB to be worth the money.
