I've got the opportunity to buy a GK 800rb do you think that the wattage of my ampeg 610hlf is too high for this head? thank you Lele
it will work just fine. an 800rb through an ampeg 810 has been a touring staple for years so it makes sense that the 610 will be fine. i've owned an 800 for a long time and it's a very hearty amp. mines been used and abused and still keeps ticking no matter what.
this is just what i wanted to hear i've read several good comments on 800rb+810 hope it will work fine thank you
of course then there is the rest of my opinion. i feel that the 810 sounds a lot better and in my opinion is actually easier to move as long as you have the space for it like a truck or SUV. i could get it in the back of an SUV by myself as well as into a trailer. something about the 610 makes it a bit awkward to me. i think because it is shorter and it makes the weight less balanced. people will probably think that i'm crazy for saying that though. i spent a few years touring and between my own and all of the other bands that we played with i've seen my fair share of 810s being hauled up and down stairs and such and it just seemed like the guys that went for the 610 had a harder time.
well...the 810 doesn't fit into my car, that's the only reason i preffered it to the 810 then i realized that from strange reason my head (traynor yba200) sounds really good with ported cabs i played through a 410HE and the sound was too harsh...it seems that yba is one of the few tube heads that like porteed cabs.... but then... i played it through a 810 and i really liked it! so in the end, i'd be an happy guy with the 810 in fact i'm gonna change my car
Xlelex, I ran a Ampeg SVT 810 with a GK 800 for over 25 years, it made a great combination. Can't see why the 610 wouldn't be great also. Now, I'm running the same GK 800 head into Eden cabs....love it!!!!
I've used a Gallien-Krueger 800RB with an Ampeg 6x10 as a backline on several occasions and I think it's a great combination for loud gigs. The speakers' definition at high volumes impressed me along with the rig's warm, punchy, clean tone.
First of all that set up will sound great. I own the 800RB,and the 1001RB. They both sound very good with the 610 HLF(puncy, loud, and agressive). Secondly, I have had the 610HLF for four years now and have found it the easiest cab to move around that I have ever had. It is much easier to move than the Ampeg 810(especially up and down stairs) IMHO and is also easier to deal with than most 410's. No dead lifting. The tilt back bar and casters, along with the skid rails make it a breeze to move. GO FOR IT!
