Well I just spoke with Evan at BassNW and GK as well. Looks to be the end of January/early Feb for the official release of the amp. Evan said the amp blew him and everyone else in the store away when they got to demo one. He said the amp just sounded huge and although it still had the classic GK sound he said the tubes added a lot of bottom end and presence. He said once word gets out they are going to be huge; and with that I am placing an early order. Looks like it will be replacing the GB1200 I currently have.
As far as Gk, I asked them why it took so long and she said they took a long time to fine tune it.I'd rather them take their time and do it right than have a complete mess once it arrives.

Anyway that's all folks, figured I'd share since I haven't heard too much on it here lately.

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like a great amp and I can't wait to try one. The release date keeps getting pushed back but hopefully GK will have all the kinks worked out and it will be worth the wait.

Yeah the only question I have about it is how quickly it will react when you use the footswitch to switch settings. I wonder how useful the morotized volume and gain knobs will actually be. That's not why I want one though..I just think the sound will be incredible.

I checked on the GK boards last night and the moderator said March but the person I spoke to at GK said definitely end of January. I think they were waiting for after the NAMM show to release it I guess?

Motorized knobs...that's almost a "minus" in my mind. Time will tell, I guess.

I sometimes think a Fusion might be able to replace my trusty old 800RB, but I just don't know. I doubt it, really. I may buy one just to do an A/B comparison.

The Switching is instant and silent.. The amp sounds pretty awesome in my opinion. I have been Gasing since bassday when I got to try it out..

Whats the power rating? Is it 300 8ohm / 500w 4ohms? The info I found said 500w but did not say if that was 4 or 8 ohm.

Really? I read on one post during a search that someone said they had volume spikes and it took a second or two..or something to that effect. That's good to know though since I am placing my deposit on a pre order tomorrow:)

It took a second or two for the knobs to move and "catch up" but the switching was instant, I made it a point to check that and the GK guy was big on showing off that function..And I heard no volume spikes, pops or anything.. just a really impressive amp.. The tone was amazing.. GK 800 punch with a with a mean tube growl.. The only concern and I really dont think it is, would be the power..Seemed plenty load enough but I always want more...:bassist:

Which reminds me...the best thing GK could do, for me, would be a 400RB that put out 500 watts instead of 200...but that ain't gonna happen.

Cool thanks for quelming my fears...although slight, they were there. I feel much better about laying down cash on an amp that has been almost two years in the making:).

Ooh... this is looking good. I've been eyeing the Fusion 550 since they announced it!

I don't know if it'd be worth giving up my GK 2001RB for it, though. The fact that the "Boost" circuit does not seem to be present could be a turn-off. Plus, I'm not sure if I'll miss the extra headroom... but it's not like I'm really using it.

But maybe I'll like the sound of this amp better. You never know until you try it, right?

I'm looking forward to doing a head-to-head comparison of the two...

I heard one of these at last year's Winter NAMM, and I have been waiting for it to hit the market ever since. If the production models are anything like the unit they had at NAMM, you better bet your last dollar that I'll be picking one up! ;) :p

You still have space in your garage for another amp? Or did you buy a warehouse recently to store it all in? :eyebrow:

And if you did, did you carpet it? :D

Although i am more than happy that the head is going to be released soon, i feel like too many people dropped the ball in one way or another with the hype and the info. This head was supposed to be out almost 2 years ago, that is a long time to be "fine tuning". They should have been a bit more secretive about it, or more open about what the status was with the head. I'm sure i will be purchasing one, i've just lost interest until it comes out.
