Clearly, another 212 would be the answer, but seeing as how i wont ever see the maximum volume that 2 212 cabs could produce, could I save some coin by grabbing a Neo 112 or 115 to stack on the 212? There are extensive threads on doing this, and many experts (Norm Stockton and Tom Bowlus) like the stack even if you dont get equal power running to the 112/115. Im just curious as to how much extra volume I could get with an additional cab, keep in mind i am doing this for the sound dispersion and not necessarily the extra power, as putting a cab up higher will warrant less volume anyway being closer to my ears and off the ground. It would also be nice to have a small one speaker cab for jazz dinner/restaurant style gigs. Anybody hit the limit on this setup, or can I run this and not worry about the smaller cab?
I have both the 212 and the 412 NEO cabs for mine. The 412 is my favorite but the 212 gets a lot of play because of it's smaller size. IF I wanted a cab that would be even smaller or some added height with the 212 it would be a NEO112. The 212 and 112 together if the volume required would just about peak the 112 at full burst power from the Fusion 550 (836 watts @ 4 ohms). I have only heard the NEO115 a couple times and prefer the bottom and more balanced sound from the NEO 12's. YMMV. Note: I also use the 212 so I can actually use some input gain with the master, with the 412 in most places the master is barely on without cutting the gain way back.
Hmmmm. I just had a thought. Why not sell my 212 and buy two 112 cabs and stack vertically? The 112 is as wide as the 212 is tall...Twice the height and great portability!
bingo. Stacking an 8ohm 112 with an 8ohm 212 only lets you put half the power into the 212 that you could before. It tricks you into thinking there is a lot of extra headroom but the 112 will suffer if you try to use it. The other thing you could do is put a small box under the 212. 2ft doesn't affect low end coupling.
I typically put the 212 on a chair or road case on tight stages to get the speakers above my ankles, but I'm usually too close at that point to know if it affects the overall tone 40 feet away. It's pretty rare that I'm not in the mains anyway. Decisions....
I had a Neo 212/112 rig with a 1001RBII for a while. It was a nice setup that sounded great but I ended up selling the 212 in favor of another 112. Then I sold the RB for a class D head. I greatly preferred the pair of 112 cabs as they sounded great stacked vertically and they were easy to transport.
