Hi folks, I'm debating buying a Neo 2x12 & 115 setup with a MB Fusion 800 head. But I see that the width of the 212 & 115 cabs are not the same. Anyone here have this setup, and is stacking them a problem? I would expect to put the 115 on the bottom, but it's an inch narrower.
IMHO, I'd go for two 212 or two 115 cabs. And, (...rising helplessly to the poisoned bait...) why do you want a 212 with a 115?
All the NEO cabs are 23.5" wide except the NEO412. The 115 III is shorter, but 2" deeper. I would also vote two NEO212 IIs, the 212s have better low end than the 115 IIIs. To add, the MB Fusion 800 should exceed 1000 watts and the 2 212s would be better able to survive. The 115 added to a 212 would limit the stack to 800 watts (twice the lowest rated cab).
I guess I was looking for more bottom end with the 15. But if you think the two 212's is good, I'm OK with that.
The 212 II has better bottom end than the 115 III and a pair of them is a pleasure to behold and play through . Look at the feature set between the 500 and 800 MB Fusions. Which fits you better? I would stay with the choice of the 800 personally. You never have to play full out. Better to have more to work with than less?
Are YOU them? I am letting the OP know the 212 cabs have better low end (or bottom end) than the 115 cabs being considered. Singularly or in multiples. Nothing to do with mixing sizes, just how these G-K NEO cabs perform.
Why listen to experience and reason? Better for the OP to go with his incorrect assumption that the 115 has more lows than the 212. He should buy both, use the cabs with that poor assumption, possibly be dissatisfied with his sound, and then sell the gear he has bought and continue to spend money. Thank goodness some pair of clown shoes was there with a meme about mixing speakers!
Do you really need to ask? Sheesh. The 212 will do the highs (& be punchier) & the 115 will handle the lows. Don't you know nothin'?
I have a Neo212-II and was thinking of adding a Neo115 to add mids, or as a different flavor used by itself...whaddya think?? *cringing*
I think people have already done it with good results. Go for it, just be aware the 115 III measures 2" deeper and with mids it should go on top of the 212 II. It will only look "funny" from the side or back not from the front.
So does the Neo115-III have a more "vintage" tone than the Neo212-II? What about the new CX 115? Mid driven as well?
Yep, that would look funny, I'd probably just put it on the bottom and deal with the wrongness of that. Of course back in the oooold days I had a Hartke 410 on a Mesa 115...as far as I remember it didn't sound all that great, but it was an improvement over the 2 - Hartke 410 cabs I started out with. That was was lacking midrange for me, all boom and sizzle.
Says the voice of Dr. EVIL, "I'd get one of those high technology 'Para-Metric Mid-Range Controls' and achieve global tone domination, using a single 212 and only 2 knobs!"
