Most everybody thinks of Timothy B. Schmidt or Randy Meisner, of course, when they think of Eagles bassists, but the truth is, Glenn Frey had actually played on some Eagles recordings. The liner notes for my CD of Long Road Out Of Eden by The Eagles lists Glenn playing a bass. I think it was a Fender Bass VI, but he has also played a Rickenbacker 4008 8 string electric bass and a Fender Precision bass. Has his own signature Rickenbacker models, too. Anyways, here are the pictures: Then again, I seem to remember that both Joe Walsh and Glenn Frey played a Moog bass synthesizer on the album Hotel California. You can hear it clearly on Pretty Maids All In A Row (alongside Walsh playing an ARP String Ensemble.) And Glenn played a lot of drum and bass guitar fills on his solo albums No Fun Aloud and The Allnighter. I hope you enjoyed this post. Please let me know.
And Glenn Frey and Don Felder also played the slide guitar parts on Good Day in Hell from On The Border by the Eagles.
Lots of guitarists make good bassists - and sometimes vice versa: Billy Sheehan is a killer guitarist and Adam Getgood was probably the best guitarist in Periphery. Learning each can make you better on the other.
Are we in the Bass Humor section? The photo of that 2030GF bass up against that unfinished oak & fir door was mine (that's the closet door in my dining room, before we did the gut restoration job of that room. The bass is now in the RIC Museum in Santa Ana. And that photo of "Glenn Frey" playing the 2030GF at a gig is actually Glenn's head grafted onto my body (I did the photoshop work) That was from a gig with Rare Blend in Baltimore in '06. The particular 2030GF in the gig shot belonged to a friend of mine who came to see us and brought it for me to play on a couple of songs. This is so hilarious!!!! To the right is my old '04 4003FL that I had vintage-ized and added a Hipshot bridge and a toaster pickup in the bridge pickup location. The guy holding it bought it from me that night after the show. I guess I did pretty good with Photoshop, eh?
pfern, good luck with the sale of your RIC three-instrument stand. I have one of those that I bought during the RIC 75th Anniversary Celebration weekend. They were $250.00 at the time, in August '06.
Funny thread! You can hear Glenn on bass on The One You Love. Walsh played a fair amount of bass on his solo records too. He's very good.
Yeah, that was my first (and only, so far) attempt at "re-animation", so to speak. Resizing wasn't as good as it could have been...
All this talk about Glenn Frey makes me want to go out and buy a copy of Joe Walsh's You Can't Argue With A Sick Mind. Great live album!
