The LAPD are going to start using GPS darts to tag fleeing cars.

A man was fined $450 for speeding in a rental vehicle, the vehicle had GPS and it caught him speeding 3 times $150 for each.

And now it gets real interesting, things you can buy on the internet

A covert real-time under vehicle tracking system magnetically attaches in just 30 seconds. Rechargeable battery modules provide flexibility in the field to meet the varying requirements of investigators.

Some of these sites advertise that you can now track your spouse with thier GPS equipment.

    Another ad

This GPS device uses satellite technology for tracking a car, truck or fleet of vehicles in real-time. From the privacy of your own computer, you can now watch a vehicle's path LIVE, real-time.

Silly LAPD. It's a violation of a criminal's right to privacy to install surveillance devices on their cars.
  3. UNLESS you have a valid warrent, consent, or are currently in the act of pursuit.

And, in the case of the rented car, that is property of a private company, therefore they can put whatever they want on it. I'm not too sure on what the legal stand is on NOTIFING the driver that they are being monitored, but since it's private property, hell, anything goes.

See, those criminal justice classes have paid off!!!:D

    Rock on

None of those devices are new. James Bond has been using them for a long time. :D

Seriously though, this is nothing new.
