The Downtown area { Riverwalk } is very nice.

Swigs on the river walk is very nice, I went there last time I was there. Expensive though. NJL {formerly nojazzloco } and Pacman live down there, they can probably cue you in on stuff to do. See the Alamo and whatnot. Maries on the Calle, if I recall the name correctly, was recommended by Pacman as a very nice jazz club, though I never got there as it was closed while I was in town.

NJL told me he plays Swigs once or twice a month, I think on a Friday night. Shoot him a PM to check his sked.

    Great town, have fun!

Carmen's de la Calle is the name of the place. It's not that far from downtown. I'm playing at the Swig's Martini Bar on the 26, 27 and 31 of Dec. January is dead for me (i'm tired anyway, or at least that's my excuse :D )

Bassists to find and go check out:

    Brandon Rivas
    Jim Kalson
    Joel Dilley
Pete Perez (should be in town from NYC)
    Pete Ojeda

BTW, why are you coming to san antonio? i usually tell people to go to a real city like austin or dallas! :D ;)

I'm going in March, same thing, vendor at a food show at the Convention Center. I'll probably stay at La Quinta as it is 1/2 the price, and I get charged back on my expenses to my commissions, so
    a buck saved is good.

And it 2 blocks further to walk to the Riverwalk, that's all.

NJL and I have already discussed getting together, why I want to be seen with him is beyond me, I think I have lost my mind!

I actually lost it in the early seventies, but that's another story ...

That is my avatar for yesterday and today until I put up a new one.

Cute huh? That Paul sure is a wizard!

  11. I second the Riverwalk. Also check out a spurs game if you got the time.

Though to be honest I never liked San Antonio much :p

I'm not a huge fan either to be honest. I was there again a couple of weeks back. The Holiday Inn right off 35 by Santa Rosa Hospital is not recommended BTW.

Does that mean the cockroaches there are bigger than the ones Downtown? :D

I know you Texas boys like to think BIG, but ... :p

i can't imagine staying in that hotel. did you feel anything moving around when you were trying to sleep?

that place is notorious for giving people a little case of the crotch crickets, i would go get checked if i were you...

Ok it wasn't THAT bad. The place is just a bit outdated ("data ports" on phones instead of high speed net connections, older appliances and whatnot). It's not some kind of dive...the clientele were tourists, businessmen and med students interviewing for residency at Christus Santa Rosa.
