Has anyone ever seen a bass with gold and/or silver leaf on it? I think it would be neat to have some sort of crazy gold and silver leaf pattern underneath a layer of poly...kind of like what they used to do with choppers.
Nope, but I was thinking about having a friend do it. She's working a lot with gold and silver leaf lately so I'm thinking about having her do it. I think it'd be really sexy if used right.
What part of the bass would you have it done on? I think it would be cool to have a top with it on there. Is this a bass that is unfinished?
Nope, I was thinking about doing it over a black finish, then a clearcoat on top. Haven't put too much consideration, and it's always on the back burner. But probably on the body.
My friend Billy Claire did just that with a custom one-off Warmoth Jag Bass he assembled with an old music-master neck and a j pup. http://wormtown.org/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=4&showtopic=11736
Ibanez made a very limited number of RG guitars that were all gold (it was gold leaf, but just all over) Was very expensive and looked horrible tbh
Well I know it's not what you were thinking but I am putting gold, silver, and bronze leaf one the headstock of the bass I'm currently building. I'll post pics when I'm done. I'm at the painting stage now.
Sounds cool. About how long will it take to finish your bass? Is the leaf hard to work with? Also, how much does it cost?
hello , if you buy real gold & silver leaf it can be exspensive but ali leaf is very cheap and looks the same silver and dutch gold (brass leaf) is cheap as well and looks very good.
Whoa! I was expecting to hate whatever that link brought up, but figured I'd never know since I got the "violation" notice as well, but that thing's pretty damn hot! What kind of finish is over it? I love the flat-topped knobs with it, and simple Musicmaster-ish bridge. The pearloid and gold really work well together. The patterns in the leaf remind me of the Ibanez "Noodles" signature Talman series that was covered in duct tape.
I've seen this in gold but can't find a pic at the moment: http://www.onstage.metallus.it/FotoProdotto/1705.jpg
In theory, I'll be finished in a week. but in reality, I have finals comming up so more like a month. The proce varies depending on quality. You can get like 5 ft squared (it comes in tiny squares) 14K for like $30 or $40, and it's really not hard to work with. You just have to hold your breath when you're around it. Breathing on it will send it into orbit because it is so light.
