I recently switched to flat wound strings and found that they pop O.K., but I can't get them to slap with very much success. Am I doing something wrong?? Or is it a characteristic of flats??

    Flats not recommended for slap.

I agree with MJB, but some flats will slap better than others. Larry Graham used to use flats sometimes. Still, they won't give you the same kind of sound as rounds. Also, you could try half-rounds like GHS Brite Flats which are ground roundwounds that are brighter than flats, but much smoother than rounds.

I use flatwounds on my Fender, but I'm looking for a string-bassish kind of attack, and I don't slap 'em.
