Good books about the music industry?

Discussion in 'Band Management [BG]' started by rabid_granny, Dec 31, 2005.

  1. Anyone got good book recommendations regarding the music industry?

I have Donald Passman's "All You Need to Know About the Music Business" and while it's a very dull read, it's very informative.

I'm ordering a copy of "Hit Men: Power Brokers and Fast Money Inside the Music Business" by Fredric Dannen based on a reference from a Negativland interview with U2. The reviews on this book suggest it'll be an interesting eye-opener.

Anyone else got some good books that are worth reading?

I recommend "So you wanna be a rock & roll star" by Jacob Slichter. A view of the music business from a musician's perspective.

  3. Making Music Your Business: A Guide For Young Musicians by Dave Ellefson (yes, Megadeth's Dave Ellefson...he's a great writer and has very good insight on many topics).
