That's about the going price for that head. I sold one exactly like it 2 years ago for $75.

Hmm alright, is it a pretty good head?

It's OK. Solid, reliable, decent tone. Could be more powerful.

If you don't mind the weight. It's a powerhouse into the right load. I think 400 watts @ 2ohms. Versatile EQ and voicing, adjustable Xover for biamping (with separate amp for highs) and a decent chorus that runs through the Xover pre effect so highs are only chorused.
The downside is that it gives little power for weight @ 8 ohms, making it a bit of a boat anchor if that is your speaker load.

I'm pretty new with all the ohm stuff so bear with me on this. If its 400 watts at 2 ohms, can I run it through a 4 ohm cab?

That's what I did. I ran it through a 4 ohm Peavey 2x15. Like I said, it could be louder. Maybe 2 of those cabs ( making a 2 ohm load).

I think I'll do that, the mark VI looks like a good affordable head

I have owned 2 of these heads - they are good, reliable amps. BUT - I was never satisfied with the sound - there was something not quite right about the sound of them.

Maybe a gk backline 600 for $140 is a better deal? 300watts into 4 ohms

Maybe, but I am not a fan of any of the Backline stuff personally.

I emailed and asked about the price and they said $100 for both!
It's their sons, so they probably just want it gone

So I'm going to check out that head/cab tomorrow. Is there anything I should be looking for other than if it works?

Looks more like a 2x15 to me...

Bring a flashlight to get a close look at the speakers to see if they are creased. For that money, you could afford to replace a driver or two. Bring bass, instrument cable, and speaker cable too. At lower volumes, twist all knobs and slide all sliders to check for functionality. Touch a 9v battery to a speaker cable (tip and sleeve) plugged into the cabinet if there is any funkiness to the sound; both speakers should "jump" in the same direction if they are in phase and both working.

Hand truck would be good too...

Excellent price, hope it works out!
