Good Exercises

Discussion in 'General Instruction [BG]' started by DuncanFlea, May 27, 2001.

  1. Does anyone know any good exercises to get away from playing the same old thing every time for each bassline. Also if anyone has some good tapping or slapping exercises that would be cool too.
    thanks, mike
  2. Instead of practising your scales in a straight up and down fashion, try playing them in patterns. example...C major scale = C D E F G A B C
Play....CDEC, DEFD, EFGE, etc up and down.
    Another...CFEC, DGFD, etc
Make up your own, and play in all keys. This will give you a more melodic way of looking at your bass.
Another tip, listen to music, in particular the basslines, of musical styles that you dont normally listen to. Example: if you're a metalhead, learn some reggae, or jazz, or latin, or Czech gypsy, etc.
