Good fret rockers on the cheap (free actually)...

I recently discovered a CHEAP way to get a good set of fret rockers...

Allen Wrenches... They have a good flat edge and come in different lengths to accommodate all the frets.

No more than I do fret work, this is a very effective/economical solution (especially since I already had a set).

    All the best,

Good observation - they do make a very accurate assessment of the fret situation. I've used the exact same technique for several years myself. Although I actually did break down a few years back and bought an actual Fret Rocker, allen wrenches work very nicely as well.

The other nice thing is that either tool(s) are quite easy to take with you into your local store to do a quick look at the fret-level situation of a potential bass you are looking at buying.
