Good News: I found the perfect amp
Bad News: It's not an amp

Situation: I get the perfect sound when I play my 5-string through a PC with a free software and headphones :meh:.

    Here's the setup:

    • Cantible 2.0 (a VST plug-in player)
    • Helian 1st Bass (a free VST plug-in)
    • KJ Compressor (another free VST plug-in)
    • AKG K240 headphones

The sound is fat and very clean.

How do I find a real amp (head/cab) that sounds like this but (obviously) much louder? I've tried lots of heads and cabs but none come close. I guess I'm looking for a very clean studio monitor-type sound loud enough for a small band situation. Any suggestions?

  3. I feel the exact same way with my mini-studio setup, lol. Bass goes straight into an Echo Audiofire4. No preamp or anything and I've got a GREAT sound. It doesn't have that lively quality that a real cab gives you but the tone is so there!
