Title says it all. They don't have to be great, mainstream, uber-slick... They can be regional, niche, DYI... ...but they should be good.
Their writing sucks and their reviews are not worth reading, but they do have good taste. Worth looking at for an idea of what's good and new.
Yeah, I don't read Pitchfork's reviews, because I have better things to do with my life, (like hang out here). But they seem to put up anything that I would be interested in hearing, so I just give them a weekly browse to see what's just come out. I then listen and form my own opinion.
A little trick I use to find out new cool magazines is to google for reviews of "Burst Appart" by The Antlers and "Kaputt" by Destroyer and then bookmark the sites, that gave them the lowest score. Having those reviews means the magazine is more or less following the trends, and giving them low scores means they don`t like boring and miserable music
