well, I've tried SD basslines 1/4 pounder passive J's in a MIM J bass, and I was NOT impressed with them at all, they were better than stocks, but not much...I've heard real good things about Dimarzio ultra J's, and I've got a couple coming that'll be in a Warwick Corvette, so I'm stoked to test 'em out. I'll let you know how they are once I try 'em.

Check out Smash's summer showdown for pickups, (stickied at the top of the pickups forum.) He reviews a bunch of PUs for jazz bass. Great resource. I personally bought some Nordstrand NJ4SEs for my jazz, and love them. You can get them from bestbassgear.com, who is the forum sponsor for pickups.

Or check out the "pickups faq" sticky at the top of the forum... the one that says "Please Read Before Posting."

Ironically - there are some excellent resource links in that thread as well. :D
