im less about asthetics and more about functionality.. but my basses that are beautiful i want to keep that way. i really recently found myself wanting my old sr5 black n maple back...but i dont want a pretty one ..i actually want a beater..something i am not so focused on keeping nice , something i am not affraid to mod, something CHEAP! unfortunately GC, MGR, CRAIGS, PAWN SHOPS ALL SEEM TO HAVE PERFEC CONDITION BASSES. i guess people wont sell or trade something for a loss if its beat up. my question is does anyone know in a website or forum or any other outlet that has plenty of, or specialize in working mans specials and beater basses?? i was gonna pick up a ray at my local GC that had bent tuners, stripped (not well) and super oiled up neck, chip-chopped paint and scratchy electronics.. the wanted $750 and wouldnt budge!!! i can get one L/N for $800 shipped! me! if you know somewhere share!
Hop across the state lines into another state, plenty of used gear shops here in OH that would probably be negotiable on price. Also, check the FS/FT threads here in the forum. Those are your best bets.
i do cruise the ohio/wv pawn and independant music shop scene..and the forums all the time (my wife hates me and talk bass) i just didnt know if there were any web based sales outlets that specialize in this stuff til then i keep lookin'. prob wit the oh wv places is the metro places know what they have and typically have an unrealistic prices and te places that are tucked away is are full of johnsons, rogues and gremlins
http://www.daddys.com/ perhaps? There or since your pretty much in my old back yard. G's Music in Steubenville usually has some interesting used stuff hanging around. Moore's Music in Bridgeport might have something too.
They're not really beater basses. The neck I got on my Jazz SX ended up being better than my Fender Jazz neck, so I ended up swapping the pickups (which were only a bit growlier, and slightly louder) and selling the fender. I mean... They're higher quality then you'd think..
Bravo. I'd kill for something like that, that paint job is sooo... I'll be honest, it's sexy, and it fits my band's style.
Your pawn shops are a lot better than ours, apparently. The ones around here are full of nothing BUT beater basses. Overpriced, in some instances.
