Good Single Cut Basses

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by B8ssMan89, Feb 2, 2005.

  1. Hey guys,
I am really really interested in gettin me a good ol' single cut 5 string bass. Yet, I dont really wanna pay like 6 grand for one.
I'm in the 3-4 grand range. So, any good yet cheap singlecut 5'ers out there?

You can definately get one for under $3000... try Nordstrand, Benavente, or Stambaugh.

Here's a pic of my Stambaugh:

  3. Wow! That's beautiful!!
But, I'm thinking of going with the Nordstrand!

can't you get just about anythign for 3-4 grand? I saw this one for the first time today and my jaw sorta dropped.[IMG]

There's also Brubaker,( which would probably be my frist choice), Bennavente, Scott French, I'm pretty sure Bee is in that range, Used Fodera... Cliff Bordwell (the pic)
  5. I've always wanted a Benevaunt ( I hope I spelled that properly) Buckeye burl top single cut 6 string.

Can't beat a Nordstrand, at any price IMHO. And they just happen to be in your price range.

  8. I like the Single Cut "B" series that Benavente, I really like the single cut that Nordstrand puts out too but for whatever reason I tend to like the smaller upper horn section or whatever you want to call it on the Benavente.

I've got to say that of all the single cut basses that I have seem, I think that the Benavente's look the nicest and play the nicest.

Here's a thread with more singlecut brands if you'd like to check it out:

sargebaker is right-you can get almost any brand of singlecut in the $3-4000 range, other than Fodera. I'm very happy with my two Elrick singlecuts-new prices for them would be about $3100-3400. You can save a grand or so if you buy used as well.

Hey Jeff... didn't I see you selling that beauty? Do you still have it?
  13. A BIG +1

I have never played a bass with better craftsmanship than my Nordstrand. You will get incredible attention to detail. The clearer you can be with your expectations for the instrument, the better Carey will be able to deliver EXACTLY what you want.

    Good Luck!!

I dig the Marchlewski's as well, or however you spell it lol. I dont know price range though. Also, JP Basses have some incredible single cuts, as does CB basses. Again, dont know price ranges though.

Depending on the options you choose, it should be UNDER your range (even with premium woods and hardware, knobs, pups, pre, etc)....

After having mine for several months, (IMHO) there is no better choice!
