I am interested in getting a power amp for my rig and have read here about the Crest Prolite amps. Can anyone recommend a good source for these products? Thanks
Northern Sound And Light is a Crest dealer, call them and see if they carry the Prolite series, or can special order you one. Their prices often make the minor extra hassle well worth it.
Unless I'm mistaken, any place that is a dealer for Peavey can order Crest. I have been under the impression for years that Peavey bought Crest a long time ago.
I just called Northern Sound And Light and checked on the status of the Crest ProLite 2.0. Really nice people. I wish they had one, I would have purchased it right away. I like dealing with personable folks. They actually said that the Crest ProLite 2.0 (as well as the 3.0) hasn't been released yet. Based on the research I have done, this is true to an extent. From speaking to several Crest distributors and dealers, Crest had an initial release of the 2.0 and a few 3.0 and they were quickly snapped up. I have been told that none have been shipped since that initial shipment. I don't know for sure, but that sure seems to be the case. The only place I can find the 2.0 is on eBay, a few on Amazon and that's about it. I really wanted to get the 2.0 to pair with my Monique that is supposed to arrive the first week in August. Baird6869, I noticed you purchased your from the eBay seller, and you stated the transaction was smooth. That looks like an option, however I was a little concerned with a 99.1 score. I guess in the big scheme of things that is a pretty good score. If anyone finds a good source for the Crest products, please share.
I'm likely going to be getting one of the Pro-lite 2.0s before the end of the summer. Thinking of that ebay seller as well. There are quite a few for sale on ebay. These guys have stock, but no one else does? Not sure why.
I've called four dealers and, so far, no joy. I've called two distributors and they couldn't help me. I'm a little disappointed in the fact that they are this hard to find from a store/dealer. I can use the power section of my TFB750 if I have to, but I would really like to have the power amp when the Monique arrives. The thing that is attractive about the ProLite 2.0 is, at least to me: * Low input sensitivity. * Apparent well built chassis. * Output selector switch. * Light weight. * Hey, it looks good! The Peavey IPR series is still on the radar.......
If anyone wants a Prolite and can't locate one, let me know. They have been going fast, but there are dealers with stock.
Sounds great. Thanks. While we have your attention can you tell us the difference between the IPR (1600) and Prolite (2.0) in terms of **quality** ???
1. The Prolite has a more rugged steel chassis as opposed to the IPR's aluminum chassis where the goal was feather weight. 2. The Prolite does not have the built in light show. To me, the blue lights in the IPR's were a little cheesy. Side by side judging by looks, I think the Prolite is obviously 10 times more the business. 3. The power supply in the Prolite 2.0 has twice the capacitance of the IPR 1600. The low frequency response and burst power is improved because of this. 4. The Prolite has a dedicated bridging output, so no need for the special output cable like with the IPR. 5. The class D output filter inductor is a higher grade component, and the filter circuit tuning is better optimized for driving lower impedance loads at high power levels at low frequencies. This is especially useful if you want to bridge and run full power into a high power 4 ohm cab. In other words, large format, pro concert and theater subs can be more challenging loads for class D power amps. The Prolite has been designed with that in mind. 6. The Prolite has higher quality, detented pots with recessed knobs, so they are less likely to get bumped around. 7. The Prolite 2.0 has more heatsinking than the original IPR1600, however, the IPR1600 II has the additional heatsinking like the Prolite.
Excellent. That's very helpful. Thank you. One other quick question... For a typical bar band is the Prolite thought to be more reliable than the IPR or are they about the same?
For what it's worth I've used IPR1600's and 3000's with no problems. That being said, I would go for the Prolite 2.0 over the IPR1600 because it's not that much more expensive and the extras would be worth it to me. The Prolite weighs about 13lb compared to the 7lb IPR. Some players are all about the ultralight weight these days, but in addition to the extra features, I would rather put my money on the more rigid chassis just because.
I am one of those weight conscious people. Otherwise the IPR would not be in the picture Interestingly I have seen the weight specs on the Prolite 2.0 range from 10 to now 13LBS, with 11.6 being the average. Wonder what it really weighs.
Well, I weighed one personally. It weighs 11.8 lbs. The 13 lb published figure must be the packed weight.
