Good strings for fretless Kingston 5

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Peter McFerrin, Jun 17, 2002.

  1. I'm getting an MTD Kingston 5 pretty soon and I'm not sure about what strings I'm going to put on it. With the phenolic board, I'll be able to get away with using stainless steel, but I'm not sure if I want to do that tonally. (Although, didn't Jaco use Rotosounds on the Bass of Doom?) Furthermore, scale length might be an issue--I know that on my old 35" Dean fiver, it was often difficult to find a 5-string set that actually fit.

Any ideas? I use Fodera Diamonds, 45-130, on my 34"-scale fretted FBB 5, and love 'em to death, but they might not be the best choice for fretless.

I use Fender Super Bass nickels on my 35" Dean Edge. Since they're made for string-through-body they are long enough for the additional scale length. They are my favorite strings.

    They sound great, too.

Love the "Level 5" avatar BTW.
