Good video/digital camera for recording shows?

  1. So we're looking at improving our sound and just getting some video for our Facebook page, what are some decent video cameras or even digital cameras that have a half decent sounding microphone on them? We play fairly loud, classic and hard rock tunes.

most camera built in mics will not handle very well , we have used our old zoom h2 line out to the camera line in with good results before

If the camera is digital, and you record audio with digital recorder. It's not a big deal anymore to sync the two in most all DAWs.

    +1.

Finding a camera that will do decent in low light is the tricky part.

  5. Budget? How much money are you bringing to the shopping party?
Are you looking for a "set it and forget it" camera, or something that will require a camera operator, but will give better results?

    Zoom HD2.

  7. I think more set and forget, we really just want something we can look at for revue and maybe to put on Facebook

You can score a Panasonic Lumix or Olympus micro 4/3 camera for around $300. They're so good at shooting HD video that they get used commercially because they're lighter and smaller than a full HD video camera or even a digital SLR.
I use Lumix G2, and I mount a battery powered stereo condenser or a Zoom H2 on the hot shoe above the built in flash. Works great and the 4/3 cameras take great still photographs too.
