Last night I broke out the ol' heatgun and stripped the very tomato soupy fiesta red from my Classic 50's Precision. View attachment 351531 While I had her stripped, I figured I'd poll my TB brethren for color suggestions The neck will remain "vintage" tinted and it will sport the same mint green PG it has now. Considering ReRanch nitro but I might get impatient and shoot it with some Home Depot rattlecan color after a good shellacking. View attachment 351538 I still have some sanding to do, but I'm not going for perfection here...just a few thin coats to age and wear back down to wood naturally. It will keep the mint guard, so until further notice...no tort! I was thinking either Sonic Blue, Seafoam Green, or LPB. Gibson's Pelham Blue has me intrigued as well. Any suggestions?
Go to the auto parts store and get "Mystic" paint - the stuff that changes color depending on the angle of view.
Does auto paint adhere well to wood? I've only used nitro. I was also thinking natural satin, but then I'd have to go tort or black guard... trying to go very low budget.
I work for an automotive paint company. If you prep the surface right and use a decent primer and clear coat. It will adhere fine.
I'm there now...just seeing if anyone has anything interesting out of left field. Any other good paint suppliers besides ReRanch?
You can get decent results with any old spray paint from the big box store, it just takes time and patience. F*** all those boring, dull Fender colors. Go crazy... bright yellow, orange, purple, copper... just make it unique, not samey.
If it was actually Fiesta Red, I'd agree. Fenders latest incarnation of this color is more like cream of tomato...not my thing. Here she is...mocked up and naked View attachment 351553
