Ohhhhh, the thing is nice. I got home from work yesterday and there it was waiting for me! It was very well set up, the action was good, it was even in relatively good tune, too! Didn't get much time on it last night, but for the half hour I did get, I have to agree with the others about the Kingstons. For the price they kick serious a$$. Light, fast neck, it plays very well. The pickguard does take some getting used to, but it's growing on me. I'm going to have to head to the woodshed now and get used to fretless!
how does it sound compared to other smoothies you've played? how is the string spacing - wider or narrower? does the neck feel creamy? bimp
Well my experience with other fretlesses is limited. But it's akin to the Pentabuzz, this is a rather broad parallel, but it's similar. The fretboard is a phenolic board so it's glassier than ones with just the wood, but not as hard as some with the ultra-hard fretboards with poly coatings and such. The neck is very thin (I'm used to a jazz and MM neck), feels a lot like som Conklins I've played. It has lots of mmwaaaaaa, and the passive tone control works well at adding some sparkle to the tone without making it harsh. Overall an excellent buy.
Congratulations ! It looks like you have a very nice fretless. Do you have pictures ? How much was it?
Does it have lines? My first Fretless is my Dean Edge 5 string which was about $400. I love it, and I think the unlined fretboard looks better than the current Edge fretless with lines.
Yea it does have lines, but to me it's a minor detail. The deal for the guitar seemed great overall that I figured I wasn't going to pass it up because of that. And, more importantly, since this is my first forray into fretless world I thought the lines might be a good guide for me. So we'll see.
