got my RUMBLEFISH!!!!!

  1. well, it came today, my first high-quality bass, the most expensive thing i currently own (and that's not saying a lot - it was a great deal, $775 new with hardshell case). i am VERY pleased with it. XL4 in aged white, gold pickguard, maple fingerboard.

the tales are true: the neck is utterly perfect. great satin finish, i didn't even notice that my thumb was touching the back of it. perfect fretwork and relief so far, i had to fiddle with the saddles a little, but it's playing great.

the composite body is really odd, not bad, just odd. i'll get used to it, and it's nice to have something different. the bass doesn't feel the slightest bit fragile, although it is semi-hollow.

the electronics are dead quiet when both J-pickups are on. there is some hum when you engage the neck pickup only, but that comes with the territory. the sound is knockout, although i only have my crappy amp here at school so i can't fully appreciate it. :(

the back of the neck is hand-initialed, a sure sign you're getting quality. :)

many thanks to dave siff for answering my questions about this instrument. i doubt i'll ever need another fretted 4 again! did i mention that it's beautiful? as soon as i can find somebody with a webcam, i'll post a pic.

That's reminds me, where's Dave Siff. He hasn't been around for some time, has he?
  4. I think he's crying cuz he's jealous. :D
  5. Hey dancehallclasher!

I was at a blues club recently and "The Fat City Band" were playing. P J Justice is their bassist and he was playing a Reverend Rumblefish. He's a fine player and his tone was really great. I had a chance to chat with him and asked him about the Reverend as this was the first time I'd seen one "in the flesh" - and he told me that he was amazed at how nice it is to play, and by the great tone he is able to get from it. In one of the numbers, he was getting this really crazy, almost feeding-back effect by facing his amp - something he wouldn't have been able to do with a regular solid-bodied bass.

Hey, good luck with the new axe!

The Rumblefish is a great bass, and you got the best color, IMO. They're WAY underrated and play and sound better than some basses that cost much more. I think the composite construction scares some players, but the 'Fish is built like a tank!

    Good score!

Not a moment too soon. Reverend's discontinued the solid-colored ones; they're only offering metal tops now.

I've never come across one yet, I would like to give it a try if I do though. In the pic, the neck looks very much like a Jazz type profile. Is that right?
  15. mmmmmm...........Reverend Rumblefish.

    Me like....
  16. Congrats, Dancehall. I've never played one, though a lot of guys rave about 'em. I'm going to have to check one out. Isn't it nice opening a box and finding an absolutely never been touched bass inside? Yum.

    Good luck with it.

    Congratulations Dance!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally think those basses are ugly, but it´s just me...... enjoy
  18. Kick ass, DHC!! I'm so proud. You got yourself one killer bass!
For those wondering (JMX, my computer time has been severely cut back, so I can't hardly post any more. I'm tryin' to sneak a few in when I can, but the days of posting all day at work are, sadly, over!
  19. I was disappointed when I first heard about that, but has anyone seen the new ones yet? WOW! I got instant G.A.S. when I saw a picture. The real clincher is, they're using black pickguards and black pickups now, and combined with the metal top, it really looks great.

That's cool! My biggest beef was with the pickguard colors. Hafta check the new ones out.
