Graphite versus all Ebony fretless neck???

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Margus Alviste, Dec 8, 2006.

  1. Hi, there!
What would be your choice - Status Graphite or Warmoth all Ebony fretless neck? I'm ordering one for my Warmoth 4-string Jazz body and can't decide which neck will suit me better. The body has Fender Custom Shop 60's pu's and Duncan pre. Your opinions?
    Thanks!
    Margus

A graphite neck might be lighter, and in my opinion a graphite neck might have more mwah than an ebony neck. However, ebony does look and sound good.

The graphite neck would be much lighter. My old Zon six-string had a graphite neck and no neck dive, but the one four-string bass I've played with an all-ebony neck from Warmoth had massive neck dive. Very unique and interesting tone- you couldn't deny the neck was a signifacant part of it, but way too heavy for my tastes.
