    ZZ Top
    Nirvana
    Grand Funk Railroad
    Rush
    ELP
    Ben Folds 5
(The Who & Zeppelin) (three instruments, but not really a 3-piece)

I've been getting back into ZZ's Tres Hombres lately since I'm trying to listen to more 3-piece bands to see how they fill out the sound. I've already gone to school on Entwhistle, Geddy and JPJ. But who am I overlooking? More like Early ZZ Top and Grand Funk? Someone current or recent worth a listen. Sparse bands that don't sound sparse.

Would prefer bands with a bassist, so White Stripes, Black Keys & Suicide don't really hit the mark in this case. (But I love those bands).

The couple immediately popping to mind are outside of your specified genre/feel, but I'll offer them anyway:
    Jimi Hendrix Experience/Band of Gypsys
earlier Dinosaur Jr. (Dinosaur/You're Living All Over Me/Bug)
edit: & of course Minutemen & fIREHOSE

Not as well known as some other bands, but these guys were a lot of fun :). At least I think so...

The Bee Gees were three brothers performing, but were they really a 3 piece "band"? Every time I saw them perform there were a lot of other musicians on stage with them.

Not so keen on the rest of their stuff, but "Sister Havana" just kills.

I showed it to my friend and he said “wow that vid made me cry” then I showed it to my partner like “this vid made (friend) cry” then my partner cried at it too lmao. I didn’t cry because I have ASD but it is a very touching video.
