Many years ago I registered on this forum, then sort of forgot about it. Earlier this month I started reading again, and have been impressed with the wealth of information. I love the pets with basses thread, probably because a good portion of my own photo collection features my Siamese-tabby mixes Orville Gibson and Hartley Peavey posing with music gear. When I was 13 in the mid-80s, my junior high offered guitar class as an elective. I was getting bored with playing French horn in concert band, so I signed up. Guitar basics came pretty easily to me (I'm a lefty who plays righty, FWIW) so the teacher decided that as a "reward", she would let me dink around with the school bass on Fridays. It was an old Japanese short scale pawnshop special with an ugly gold finish, ancient flats, and high action, but I fell in love with it anyway. Over the years I've picked up a few other instruments, including mandolin, keyboards, and drums, but I consider myself primarily a bassist. I'm currently in a modern rock cover band, but occasionally pick up side projects and play out solo, so I guess that also makes me a part-time gui****. When I moved to northwestern PA almost 10 years ago, I met luthier John Stoneman (yes, this is the same guy who built the naked bass), who has since built me an acoustic guitar and three 32" scale basses. They're all fantastic instruments that I can't say enough nice things about. I'm glad I came back to the forum, and thanks for reading!
