Greg Willis passed in his sleep in Portland, OR 11-11-2016. He was the first bass player when the group formed in 1966 in San Diego, where Greg lived up until about 3 years ago. When the band moved north
to Los Angeles, Greg's father would not let him move, as he was still in high school, and would have had
to drop-out. He didn't speak to his father for something like 33 years because of that.

Greg played in every good blues band in San Diego- most notably a 9 year run with Candye Kane & The Swingin' Armadillos, The Blonde Bruce Band, Jerry Raney & The Shames, GLORY, Lafayette & The LeaseBreakers, The RumBoogies, The King Biscuit Blues Band, The Mississippi MudSharks, The Palace Pages, and many, many more.

He played a sunburst 1968 Fender JAZZ bass that he bought brand new, and played it exclusively for his entire life. Greg was one of the 1st players to have a P-Bass pick-up installed in the neck position.

He was also an on-air Disk Jockey on KPRI FM, using the stage name of Soloman Grundy.

He toured the world a few times while with Candye Kane, who also passed earlier this year.

Greg had a lot of fans around the world, as was known for his solid, walking bass lines and great

The San Diego Music Awards - 2010- Mayer Jerry Sanders presented Greg and Jack Pinney- Iron Butterfly's first drummer- with Life Time Achievement Awards.

"One Take Willis" will be missed by all that knew him.
