Did these basses really exist as protoypes? Is there a reason to be wary about purchasing a 4003 in greyglo?

These were a recent batch of Jetglo (black) Rics that came out looking grey ( I believe cause they gave them a matte
finish instead of high gloss?)-Ric still released them as Jetglo,
even shipping them to customers that ordered a deep-black
Jetglo- You should definitely grab one if you get the chance,
as it is an actual factory-done color which will be extremely
rare (unsure how many of these were/are produced, but I
guarantee collectors will be paying/asking stupid amounts of
money for these in the near future, where standard Jetglo
is quite common (which I'm proud to be a commoner!)-
  3. I believe they were/are something of an experiment. It is true that they have a matte finish, but I believe that it's a layer in the CV coating they use. I believe that the top coat is still glossy. If it weren't for the matte in there, it would just be a regular Jetglo, if what I understand about it is true.
