I never actually learned to play very well
As you may have heard, movie theaters are mostly closed. This movie was made for theaters but there’s no place to show it. So Apple bought it.

Watched last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a WW2 “The Battle of The Atlantic” view of things. Very tightly focused, no wasted time. Wam bam thank you Tom. Barely 90 minutes including end credits.

Highly recommend even if it’s not 10 out of 10 in normal times. But it’s exactly what I wanted at this time. Probably something to do with its depiction of clarity of command and purpose.

A very straightforward plot with no frills/over-the-top special effects and plenty of tension. Very enjoyable (though I couldn’t stop thinking about the kind of stress people endure during war - truly horrible).

I'll watch this soon. I hope they don't ruin it with some sort of love story wound into the plot.

The movie doesn't have much time for that.

Excellent. Glad they didn't do this one up like Pearl Harbor (2001) or even Midway (2019).

I haven’t seen the movie, and I enjoy pretty much everything Tom Hanks does, but just as a point of fact, he’s twice as old as the average sub commander in WWII. These were young men, the crew was aged 20-24 years and if the captain was 30, he was a grizzled old veteran. That’s how dangerous sub duty was. When I think about my maturity at 20-24 years, I marvel at the resolve of those young men. Truly they are “The Greatest Generation.” We owe so much to them.

Just for clarity, Hanks plays the captain of a destroyer escorting a convoy of mostly merchant ships across the Atlantic for his first time.

That's exactly how I view events happening this year. Whenever somebody is melting down over an inconvenience, I think they have no idea what people went through during WW2.

Don’t get me started! The number of times I’ve thought, “What would my grandfather think of this” in the past few months...

I have had my fill of people comparing themselves in this health crisis to the suffering of WW2. Tone deaf, self-aggrandizing and disgusting.

Ooh! I had no idea they were making The Outpost into a movie. I read the book. Tough situation that was. I was in Afghanistan but never got THAT far downrange.

Good to know. Those convoys were sitting ducks for German U-boats during the first part of the war. German subs prowled the entire East Coast of the US, and explosions and fires were commonly seen from land. Towards the end of the war the Allies had neutralized and nearly destroyed the entire fleet of German subs.

My Mother saw ships burning in the Gulf of Mexico as a child. They were victims of German U-Boats. Imagine seeing that on your next trip to the beach.:woot:

    ...spolied brats we are.
I'm old enough to remember the Oil Embargo.
I have my doubts how 'the entitled' would handle that major inconvenience.

looking forward to watching this, the convoys are a fascinating part of WW2 history.

on a side note, would it be possible to save the "complaining about young people" for somewhere else? you know it makes sense :)
